5.0 out of 5 stars Real Singing From Some Real Divas
Shirley, Brenda and the late Valorie really gave us some slamming music. The First Two albums "The Jones Girls" and "At Peace With Woman" are total gems. Gamble and Huff crafted the most sensual, creamy sounds I have ever heard. Shirley's 5-octave voice shines throughout it all. Form the "Grey Album", I enjoyed every last track. My favorite is "You're Gonna Make Me...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Jones Girls on Philadelphia International Records
This CD is a combination of the trio of sisters' first two of four albums on Philadelphia International Records, 1979's "The Jones Girls" and 1980's "At Peace With Woman", plus a b-side ("bonus track").

THE JONES GIRLS & AT PEACE WITH WOMAN consists of 17 songs; tracks 1-8 from their 1979 self-titled PIR debut, tracks 9-16 from 1980's "At Peace With Woman",...

My favorite is "You're Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" which is a smoky, funky affair. I was just a lad when I heard this. Totally off the chain. From "The Beach Album", every track was on fire. My faves are "Dance Turned Into A Romance", "While I'm Gone", "I Just Love The Man" and the extra bonus track ""Eternally". These two are must haves.
Honestly speaking, Destiny's Child are no match vocally for my girls. Shirley could actually knock all three of them without breaking a sweat. If you want real divas, cop this!

Valorie, I miss U!

5.0 out of 5 stars When Harmony Ment Something To The Ears, December 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Nothing says harmony like the sounds of the "Jones Girls". And if that's what your ears are used to listening to, then I would suggest this cd. "I Close My Eyes" says it all!!

2.0 out of 5 stars The Jones Girls on Philadelphia International Records, February 1, 2007
This review is from: Jones Girls/at Peace With Woman (Audio CD)
This CD is a combination of the trio of sisters' first two of four albums on Philadelphia International Records, 1979's "The Jones Girls" and 1980's "At Peace With Woman", plus a b-side ("bonus track").

THE JONES GIRLS & AT PEACE WITH WOMAN consists of 17 songs; tracks 1-8 from their 1979 self-titled PIR debut, tracks 9-16 from 1980's "At Peace With Woman", and "Eternally" (track 17), the b-side to the single "Dance Turned Into Romance". Disc packaged in clear jewel case; total running time: 75:51. Booklet includes an essay by Tony Rounce, several photographs, and track recording information. Sound quality is excellent.

In the absence of readily available compilations of The Jones Girls' music, this is the best disc available which includes their big hit "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" and "Who Can I Run To?" (the latter remade by R&B quartet Xscape in 1995). While the music is enjoyable and the vocals tight, I was not amazed by the songs included here (They don't compare to Labelle, Honey Cone, or The Pointer Sisters). But this is a great release for fans of The Jones Girls, who may be interested to know their third & fourth PIR albums are available on another Edsel CD.

Notes: "You Gonna..." runs 4:29, not 5:17, as indicated in the booklet. Disappointingly, the 12" version of "You Gonna..." is not included. Most of the songs are mid-tempo grooves.
