5.0 out of 5 stars This Kid's Alright!, June 1, 2000
By
This review is from: Jordan Knight (Audio CD)
Aiming for the credibility he deserved but never received as NKOTB's lead singer, Jordan Knight arrives with his first solo album. If youre expecting sugary teen-pop again, you are way wrong. This album is top-notch r&b and Jordan has obviously used his hiatus well. What one almost immediately notices is that Jordan does not over-sing, instead using his voice to actually express the emotion in the song. The first two songs "Give it to You" and "A Different Party" are OK, but sound like they belong on someone else's album. Jordan's smooth voice is obviously better suited for the ballads which dominate this album. Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis continue their long streak of quality music with the Boyz II Men-ish "Broken by You" and "Close My Eyes" (which samples "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas! ) The rest of the album, produced by Jordan and Robin Thicke (with an assist from ex Kid Donnie Wahlberg) contains beautifully written and sung tunes such as a somewhat bizarre ballad reconstruction of Prince's "I Could Never Take the PLace" and "Separate Ways" (which was co-written by ALAN THICKE (AKA Jason Seaver on "Growing Pains"). Obviously, Interscope made an unwise decision in marketing this to a teenybopper crowd as opposed to an audience more in tune with a Jon B or a Babyface. If you are looking for great songs sung by a surprisingly great voice, you will not be disappointed by this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why isn't Jordan K taking over our charts? This blew me away, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Jordan Knight (Audio CD)
When I was between the age of 6-9 I loved this band, I don't know if you guys know them, they were called the New Kids On the Block, their lead singer Jordan Knight became my first ever crush. When they split up in 94 I was abroad and so didn't realise this and subsequently forgot about the New Kids and the handsome dark-haired falsetto with the dimples.

In 1999 I was pleasantly reminded when Jordan K released 'Give it to you' which I loved but for some strange reason I didn't buy the single and didn't follow Jordan's progress and cos I didn't see him since (I live in the UK) I didn't know of this album and again forgot about JK.

Then last year me and my older sister were reminiscing and New Kids came up and from then on I fell in love with the New Kids all over again, buying up their old merchandise off ebay. You're probably thinking, how sad?

Wrong! You know why? Because it eventually led me to buy this excellent album which I recieved a few days ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to like a piece of music just cos of who sings it, in fact I bought Jordan's remix album that he released in 2004 of the old new kids songs which although brought back a lot of good memories, weren't that impressive.

Anyway going back to this album, there is not one bad song on it. 'Give it to you' shows a daring, sexy side to Jordan than his 'I'll be loving you forever days', which really works. 'A Different Party' is a great dance track with Jordan's voice sounding like a cross between Jamie Cullum and George Michael, trust me it works! 'I could never take the place of your man' is a ballad version of Prince's 1987 'rock' hit. Let's just say Jordan wins, it sounds much better as a ballad.

Speaking of ballad 'Close my eyes' and 'Change my ways' are great love songs which show off Jordan's gorgeous voice. What I love about the love songs on this album is that they're hopeful/optimistic love songs rather than the more common depressing ones.

The best ballad by far and probably the best song on the album is 'When you're lonely'. It's so beautiful it left me breathless, it features (in parts) Jordan's famous falsetto against a backdrop of sweeping violins, indian sitars with some bass too. This album is worth it for this tune alone! 'Broken by you' is also such a hautingly beautiful song.

Look just buy the album. This is no doubt one of the best or the best album of 1999 (although I'm reviewing it in 2005. It's a travesty that this album wasn't a hit in the year that Britney Spears was hitting us too many times with her bland material. Jordan is one of the most underated talented acts of our time and I wish him the best of luck in the future.

Come on Jordan, 'give it to us!'. We need you

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, November 13, 2003
By
This review is from: Jordan Knight (Audio CD)
Jordan Knights first solo attempt following the New Kids era is a smash hit. The song "Give it to you" is a whole new sound for Jordan. It is sexy and exciting! No one would of thought to hear Jordan Knight singing about wanting to have sex! He also has a lot of other songs on his cd like "I can never take the place of your man" which is slow remix orignally sang by Price. You have a great variety of songs that really show off Jordan's talent, the cd is worth getting!
