I bought a couple of these from amazon about a year ago. Service was great and I've used them many times. the 3" reach is nice and the clamping force is excellent.

Only small issue with these is you have to keep some scraps of wood around to use as clamp pads, the plastic ones definitely stain whatever they touch. Don't clamp them directly to your work unless you are going to paint it and don't care if it gets stained.

I own a few of the old-style Jorgensen clamps with wood handles and they were labeled "Made in USA". The clamps that I received were nothing like shown in the picture and are NOT labeled made in USA. The handles are presumably cheap plastic and rubber as shown in my uploaded pictures.

The quality of the clamps appears similar to my old style clamps and I will be using them soon, so we will see if these 'imported' clamps stand up to the durability and precision of the old clamps. At the moment I can't comment on the actual quality of the clamps so they will stand at 3 stars because they were nothing like shown in the pictures. May increase or decrease rating depending on how the clamps perform.

If you ask me, duct tape isn't all it's cracked up to be. Some people talk like it's God's gift to handymen, but I've never found it that useful. Today, however, I was glad for my duct tape (that is, once I found it, dusted it off, and wondered why the hell I got such a huge roll).

As others have mentioned, the pads on these clamps leave an oily residue that's difficult or impossible to remove. Which is a major drawback, especially for fine woodworking. I tried to clean the oil off the pads using a paper towel, then soapy water, then various solvents. No dice. Finally, I just applied a layer of duct tape to each pad to prevent it from staining, and that seems to work.

I know it's a crude solution, but these are otherwise great clamps at a great price. An equivalent Bessey clamp costs almost twice as much, so you'll come out way ahead buying a pair of these, even if you also get the duct tape. And you never know--maybe you'll find that roll of super-sticky, plastic-sealed, residue-leaving cloth handier than I do.

UPDATE: The adhesive on the duct tape fails easily when subjected to the torque from tightening the clamp. So here's another solution. Get some flat sheet rubber that plumbers use to cut gaskets. (Any hardware store will have this.) Then glue pieces of rubber onto the clamp pads. You'll want to use a glue designed for plastic (I used a quick-set epoxy) and scuff up the pads and rubber with sandpaper before you apply the adhesive, but it should hold better than the tape.

I have used these clamps for years in my woodworking shop. They are no longer stocked at my local hardware store, so I was pleased to find them at Amazon. I use these clamps because they are as strong as any I have seen anywhere and are quite easy to adjust and use. Any woodworker should love these clamps.

This is a heavy duty and weight clamp. it is for major clamping not for clamping small pieces for it would cause movement with its weight. Packaging between vendors range from excellent (lots of tight bubble wrap to just loosely place in the box so it can be lost in shipment. I have experienced both with the loss of a clamp in shipment. It is difficult to correct shipping problems. I can take months to get replacement and proper packaging.

Be aware that there are two 3712 clamps. The 3712 is light-to-medium duty, while the 3712-HD is heavy duty. The 3712-HD is a wonderful tool that will last several generations and provide all the clamping power you need. Of most interest, the 3712-HD was less expensive than the 3712s I inadvertently ordered.

I bought a few of these clamps the other day. I removed the plastic pads immediately because I use separate scrap wood to prevent damage. I figured the plastic pads would not protect from the clamp digging into my work. I do not like the course threads as compared to the light duty 3712s. I can not get as tight of bond as I can with the light duty 3712s. Other than that, a great clamp.

I wanted something a little heavier duty that I could use for construction jobs and not worry that I was putting too much pressure on the clamp. I subscribe to the school of "woodworking projects (joints) should fit well and not require excessive clamping pressure" but when you are holding or moving construction grade lumber, you need pressure. These clamps are strong and not nearly as heavy as pipe clamps, so will be handy in the workshop as well. I liked these so much, I bought some 3724-HDs too!
