A matter of preference,

I believe the HD Jorgensens are the best bar clamps available. Bessey's tradesman are good, but can be a little inconsistant on the quality control end & a little too expensive. Record's are good too but very expensive. I prefer the Jorgensen's clutch, it holds better. You can snug the clamp up tight enough to hold the work yet still make adjustments just by pushing it together, an excellent feature. Jorgensen's pads are top notch, they're thick & soft & truly protect the work. The Jorgensen swivel allows you to clamp up to about a 15 degree angle with no additional clamping aids, very nice. I like the big wooden handles, I find them easy on the hands. Untill someone comes up with a better featured bar clamp, "Jorgies" will remain the prefered clamp on my workbench.

One of the essentials when setting up a shop. You need multiples of all sizes. The Jorgensen along with the Pony pipe clamps are my favorites. They are easy to set up and use, they hold the piece tight and with the rubber pads they don't mar the wood. They also make a 24" and above with a ratcheting system (very nice). You can't go wrong with Jorgensen.

Nice Heavy Duty Clamp,

I'm a little surprised by Amazon's prices for these clamps. I've been buying the 24" version from "the big orange store" for about $6.50 less per clamp! The build quality is truly "heavy duty". I haven't noticed any surface damage from the nice thick pads. You cant beat $14 ea for these, highly recommended.

Stain the wood,

The rubber on these clamps is very soft. When clamping it leaves a stain on the wood that will not come off without a lot of sanding/scraping/planing. They work fine and are pretty heavy duty but the marks that are left remain after finishing if only a clear coat or light stain is used. I have a lot of these clamps (and the 12" and 36") I bought for a large project. The price was fine but now I am looking for other pads to change out with these. If you find the price is great then buy them and get new pads.

I purchased the heavy duty clamps because they work better for me, the price difference between the light duty and heavy duty is only about $2.00

I have a few of the 24", and a few of the 36", I have used them for clamping edge glued, and some cabinets, and for easing a sliding dovetail in, and so far they have worked great. My only complaint is the handle seems a little cheap, but given the price, I'm not surprised. Definitely better than what my local hardware store is offering. For the starting wood worker I think these are perfect. They are nice and heavy, clamp like a fiend, infact I busted a tongue and groove piece because I over-tightened it.

These clamps leave oily stains on your work.,

A word of caution about these clamps. The pads on the jaws of these clamps is made of an oily plastic that makes oily marks on the wood.
Cleaning the pads with solvent doesn't help and getting the oil off the wood is difficult/impossible. I've contacted the manufacturer and they are aware of the problem. They recommend going over the oily marks with solvent two or three times. Then, they recommend that you apply wood stain to the project. To read more Amazon reviews about this problem, check the 12 inch version of this same clamp. Even with the problem I've just described, I have to say that these are strong, well-made, quality clamps....if you remove the plastic pads.

Very Good Clamps,

Good clamps. Not Bessey, next best thing and cheaper. 4 stars only cause their wooden handles look like they were made in Iraq.
