Combining both speed and power, Canesco accomplished what no major league baseball player had before him: stealing 40 bases and hitting 40 home runs in the same season, 1988. As is typical with most books of this nature, only brief mention is made of the subject's childhood and off-field activities. The steroid-use accusations that have been made against Canesco are discussed. Black-and-white photographs chronicling Canesco's career appear throughout the five chapters, and a summary of his professional baseball statistics is given at the end of the book.
