This is the black and white 1950 version of Cyrano De Bergerac starring Jose Ferre and Mala Powers.

Jose won an academy award for best actor in this film.

A must have for the classic film lover.

Lots of reviewers dis' this inexpensive "Diamond Entertainment" version, 'cause it ain't perfect. Well, it ain't - but if you don't wanna shell out the "big bucks" for the pristine prints, this is a perfectly watchable and very affordable version. If you've never seen it and enjoy, or are curious about prosaic, Shakespearian type dialogue and storytelling, circa late 40's, early 50's Hollywood, this movie might interest you. Then, if you like it enough to want to see it the way the director presented it to the producers, then shell out for the "Hal Roach Studios" version, that many claim is the best. One of the best films to fall into the "public domain" category. Hell, it may be one of the top 100 films ever.

I saw Mel Ferrer in Cyrano back in the early '50s and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got stung ordering this inexpensive copy by TTG Direct; it is a really terrible transfer. The non-existent contrast and graininess is just plain horrible. I'm donating it to the library sale. I understand from other reviews that the Image Entertainment DVD (yellow cover with "Hal Roach Studios"), maybe be the best of the lot. A wonderful film with beautiful dialogue should be restored.
