Editorial Reviews

The simplicity and sincerity of Cuban poet and essayist José Martí are well-known. He was born in 1853 in Cuba and known as the "Apostle of Cuban Independence;" he moved to New York in 1881, where he remained until his death in 1895. In New York, he founded the Cuban Revolutionary Party and made an uncertain living as a newspaper correspondent, teacher, translator, and diplomat. Included here are his poems and prose of love and friendship, freedom and exile, eternity, and the essence of childhood from Versos Sencillos, Poesias Dispersas, La Edad de Oro, Tres Héroes, Los Zapaticos de Rosa, Los Dos Principes, and Cada Uno en su Oficio. In Spanish.
