Fascinating autobiographical essay,

This is a fascinating, although brief autobiography of Josef Hoffmann. It is in the form of an essay written near the end of his life. Be aware that it is a duel language title and therefore half of the book is in German and then half in English so in fairness you should halve the number of pages given. However, as the text does carry the ideas and interests of Hoffmann in his own words, from his early days, through to much of the history of the Wiener Werkstatte, it does give a fascinating insight into the workings of one of the twentieth centuries greatest designers and organisers. There are copious notes not supplied by Hoffmann, although exhaustive nonetheless. It even comes with an unfoldable diagram of the Hoffmann family tree. Published by MAK, the famed Applied Arts museum of Vienna, it is thoroughly recommended for anyone wishing to hear the from the man himself, rather than a biographer.
