Product Description

Color:Green

Joseph Joseph is ever conscious of the space restrictions imposed by modern urban living. They are the masters of form and function. The adjustable Rolling Pin will take the guess work out of preparing pizza and pie bases, lasagna sheets and filo pastry. The rolling pin has three sets of removable discs which raise the rolling pin to the required thickness of 1/16-inch, 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch off the work surface. This clever devise will ensure that the pastry or dough is rolled to an even thickness throughout. Also etched into the wood is a pastry width measurement guide. Pin made of beech and measures 16-1/2-inch long and 2-1/2-inch diameter.

I love this rolling pin. It is so easy to work with, and you are guaranteed the same thickness every time because the discs are rigid (unlike the rubber bands that you can buy to put around an existing pin). I purchased it to make springerle cookies and it rolled out the dough beautifully. I was worried that the measuring guide etchings and joseph joseph logo would leave marks in the dough, but any impressions were very light and disappeared once I pressed the cookie molds down. The pin is nice and smooth and easy to clean. Well worth the money.

I've had it for a year or so, and I do a LOT of baking, (almost everything my family eats I make from scratch) so it's been well used...

I really wanted to love this pin, it looked both elegant and novel on the shelf at the store. I liked that it came with handy discs to take the guesstimation out of rolling thicknesses, but as many previous reviewers have pointed out, the jump from 1/16th to 1/4" is HUGE, and in between sizes are needed if it is to be worth the money specifically for this feature.
And if you're not buying it specifically for that one feature, there's not much reason to buy it! I should also add that my discs never sat perfectly centered on the pin, which was an annoyance, though a fairly minor one given that I decided the discs were useless pretty early on.

Having a straight pin (rather than curved like a french pin) with wider ends once the discs are on, makes it more difficult to keep the edges of your dough from splitting, and more difficult to maneuver the dough in general because it greatly limits the angle at which you can hold the pin to the dough. Those "handy" discs get in the way. But this is not its worst flaw.

This rolling pin has the name josephjoseph etched deeply into the wood right in the middle of the pin. You can see it in the picture. If you are working with even a slightly sticky dough, flour all you want, those stupid indentations always pick up dough and stick. And I've got to tell you, it isn't much fun scrubbing out all of those little grooves either. Seriously, name placement needs to happen with function and common sense in mind - now all I associate their brand name with is pure frustration because I paid so much for something that was obviously designed to sell rather than function.

I liked the idea of being able to control the thickness of the pastry when rolling it out and it is a good concept except for the sizes of the discs which come with this rolling pin. 3/8", 1/4" and 1/16" are what you get and after using this pin for various holiday baking, I find myself crying out for a 1/8' disc. The 1/4" rolls out too thick. The 1/16" rolls way too thin. I tried stretching onto the 1/16" disc one of those 1/16" elastic bands for conventional rolling pins but the bevel on the disc won't allow the band to stay on. I bought 2 metal discs at the hardware store which came close to a 1/8" rolled thickness but the center hole is too large and the disc causes uneven rolling. I can't think what the 3/8" disc would be used for as 3/8" is too thin for biscuits. Also be aware that "6 adjustment discs" actually means 3 pairs! This pin is made in China but designed in Europe where perhaps they have a need for very thick or very thin pastry. But this is the American market and a little more variation in the form of 1/8" and 1/2" discs would go down very well!

What a fun rolling pin! It looks like a child's toy but it is actually an ingenious kitchen tool. I wish I had invented it!

The height washers are great and the width ruler is absolutely perfect. Once you use this rolling pin you won't want to go back to a regular rolling pin ever again.

The only suggestion I can have for a future model is having spinning handles (on bearings) on the ends of the pin like regular rolling pin. This way your hands are not heating up the wood nor are your natural skin oils getting on the pin/dough.

It's easy to roll 1/8-inch dough with this rolling pin. Get a thin cutting board or other board that is 1/8" thick, making sure it is narrower than the distance between the two discs. Use the 1/4" discs. The 1/4" discs will be on the counter, but the dough will be raised on the 1/8" board. The dough will then be rolled 1/8" thick.

Great product. I love the way you can put different rings on the handles, and make sure your cookies or any rolled dough is just the right thickness throughout.

I had the rubber rings for my other rolling pin, but they would slip off, turn sideways, and generally did not work well. With this rolling pin, they are on there to stay, and they really work.

Also like the measurement marks on the pin. They do not transfer to the dough, but are an excellent guide for cutting dough after it is rolled.

Makes baking more fun.

I've recently started making decorated sugar cookies with Royal Icing. These kind of sugar cookies require the dough to be perfect even. This rolling does a great job with that. I love the rolling pin but unfortunately it's got one fatal flaw... the 1/16 is too thin to make cookies and the 1/4 & 3/8 is too thick for the kind of cookies I do. A 1/8 ring would be the perfect thickness. I know there are cookie decorators that prefer big thick cookies but of all the ones I've tried the 1/4 is too thick and just a tiny bit thinner would be perfect.

Joseph Joseph, please please create a 1/8 disc and then sell them separately so those of us with the pin can just purchase the 1/8 disk we need!!!
