I just returned this book. I was hoping for a complete score as was suggested in one of the reviews, but it is missing the Prologue, which the Narrator uses to open the show. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Musical Theatre Show, September 15, 1999
This review is from: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Paperback)
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the perfect show for children and adults alike. The kids like the larger than life characters while the adults can appreciate the tongue in cheek humor expressed in the songs.

This book is a nice addition to any songbook library, as it includes all of the songs from Joseph as well as the accompanying piano part. If you enjoy musical theatre, sitting around the piano and singing, this is a great book to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book has a complete score., October 12, 2002

In other reviews, some people suggested that the book doesn't have
complete score, but that's wrong. For example, the first song by the
narrator is the same as Pharao's Song. You only need to
replace the lyrics.
I checked each DVD track with this book, and it has a complete score.
This music book is not intended for piano solo, and it does not
have any chords. It has voice parts (solo, duet, chorus) and
piano accompany part for actual performance.
I heard that this musical went through a lot of revision and
additions. So, I expected that the scores might be different,
since this book was published in 1975. But I was surprised to
see that there is virtually no difference from the DVD release
(1999).

4.0 out of 5 stars What a great selection of music!, December 2, 2000
By

This review is from: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Paperback)
I recently performed in an amateur performance of "Joseph," and because the 'official' scripts (updated in 1995, I believe) hadn't arrived yet, we used portions of this book (with a score from the '70s) to begin rehearsal and choreography. We were expecting some changes to the score, but to our surprise, the only song that was missing was the Prologue, which we had been choreographing to the CD. Some of the harmony and character breakups had been changed, but apart from that, the score was essentially the same. This book is perfect for those of you who need audition music ("Close Every Door", "Pharoah", "Any Dream Will Do"), or those of you who just enjoy singing solo or with friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joseph- You Love The Show? Get This Book!, June 29, 2000

This book is wondeful! I was a little weary about getting it because I wasn't sure what songs it contained. I read a review that said all songs were included, but I was still unsure. I got the book sooner than I expected and it surpassed all of my expectations! EVERY song is in this book. Even chorus parts! I am so glad to have found this book before I purchased a "highlights" book for the same price. If you love "Joseph" and want music for auditions or just to have, this book is the definite choice!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 30, 2005
This review is from: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Paperback)
This book is a great book to buy, whether for your own personal collection or for auditions...I bought it for an audition and it worked wonderfully!
To those who say that this book is not complete, I humbly suggest they change the words to "Pharoh's Story" to creat the "Prologue" and also, not all versions of the show featured the "Any Dream Will Do" at the beginning. Some shows only did it at the end...but it's still the same song (minus the narrator's part)
This is a great book and I'm really happy with my purchase!

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost Vocal Score, October 6, 2000

This review is from: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Paperback)
I just returned this book. I was hoping for a complete score as was suggested in one of the reviews, but it is missing the Prologue, which the Narrator uses to open the show. ("Some folks dream of the wonders they'll do, Before their time on this planet is through") That was THE song I was after since it is not in any of the Vocal Selections books I've seen. Apparently, the author added this song later (the show has evolved over time) and has never gone to the trouble to publish it. So, if you're after the Vocal Score, this is great, but don't think it's complete. So now I'm off to the piano and stereo to transcribe the sheet music from the soundtrack. Tedious, but fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joseph, February 14, 2007

This is a great score. All the songs are included (with the exception of the Prologue, but as other reviewers have stated, this is the same music as "Pharoah's Story", which is included in the book). The different voice parts are included, and all of the harmonies.

Surprisingly, the book itself is much smaller than I had expected. It is not the size of a normal piano book, and the music itself is smaller than I would have liked. Nevertheless, it is definitely worth buying.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what you think, October 4, 2000

Though this is an actual choral score, which sets it apart from all the Piano/Vocal/Guitar junk one usually finds, BE AWARE that this score does NOT contain all the songs from the Joseph production that has recently made such a splash. Most importantly, it opens with Jacob and Sons, not the Narrator introduction to Any Dream Will Do. Unfortunately, I purchsed the score on the basis of the first review I read here (by Michael from Commerce, TX), which is inaccurate. I was disappointed and returned my copy.

This was perfect for my purposes: to have the lyrics and tunes available for audition and practice prior to our group renting the full set for performance. It is as described and contains everything I needed to prepare for the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars The complete score of an older version, June 18, 2007
This review is from: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Paperback)
Many people have complained that this book is not the complete score. It is not the complete score of the version that is now licensed. This is the COMPLETE vocal score of the 1973 studio album: http://www.amazon.com/Joseph-Amazing-Technicolor-Dreamcoat-London/dp/B000002NWN/ref=pd_bbs_sr_9/105-1926707-3902004?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1182184470&sr=8-9

If you are absolutely in love with the newer versions of the show, Pharaoh's Story can be reworked to be the Prologue and Any Dream Will Do can be copied and pasted to the beginning, and little alterations will be needed here and there. There are some different lyrics, some different musical passages, and some of the songs are in different keys. A girl trying to sing the Narrator part as this book has it written may have a lot of trouble as the Narrator was sung by a man on that 1973 album. Personally, I think this book is fantastic, and especially at such a low price compared to most vocal scores. It's a real bargain. My advice would be to get this book and the matching recording - both are great.
