This review is from: Joseph Beuys: We Go This Way (Hardcover)
A chronicle of many Beuys travels. Includes the "coyote" performance in NYC in 1974. With the foresight of a visionary, before his first trip to North America, the artist declares: "I want to see nothing of America but a coyote." This book, perhaps is not the best to introduce oneself to the charismatic Shaman. Hardcore Beuysian might like it; when mystery man of Krefeld watches the Icelandic whalers skinning a whale -it's an event greater than any Christo draperies, or toilette walls defacings by Cy Twombly or Basquiat...
However, many photos here are off focus. Composing the pictures also leaves something to be desired, and eventually improved upon. Such is the destiny of lesser artists. |
