4.0 out of 5 stars Starts off boring, but gets better, March 27, 2000
By
This review is from: Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim (Barron's Book Notes) (Paperback)
When I first picked up this book, I thought this was gonna be an alright book. About 15 pages into the book I couldn't go on. The way Conrad writes is just plain bad, and makes this book more boring than it needs to be. Since I had to read this for my English seminar I read more of it and about 40 pages into the book it started to get more interesting. The story of Jim is well told and interesting, but the way it was written (Marlow recalling all these events) isn't that good. If you can get through the first 50 pages then it'll turn out to be a good book but it's really hard to get started.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd rather be cut up by a chainsaw than re-read this book., October 6, 1999

This review is from: Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim (Barron's Book Notes) (Paperback)
Lord Jim is hard to read and understand, therefore it does not catch my attantion. I do not recommed it to anyone except my English professor and those like him. Conrad has a fascinating way of wording things, but the subject matter provided by Lord Jim does not strike my interest.
