5.0 out of 5 stars Haydn op.33 - Apponyi Quartet on period instruments, March 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Joseph Haydn - Six String Quartets Op. 33 (Audio CD)
A fantastic find! These German artists, who are the principals of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, have recorded Haydn's glorious op. 33 set. The results are simply fantastic. These are chamber musicians who fully understand classical gesture, phrasing and articulation. This, however, is not your average 'dinner party' Haydn. The Apponyi quartet makes this music edge-of-your-seat entertainment, full of dramatic mood shifts and unexpected tumult. Indeed, these quartets are not without their own 'sturm und drang'. The group's leader Gottfried von der Goltz, apart from making a name for himself as arguably the world's foremost baroque violinist, is now showing his strength as a wonderfully colourful and distinguished interpreter of classical repertoire. Highly Recommended! Apponyi Quartet - Gottfried von der Goltz, violin Petra Muellejans, violin Christian Goosses, viola Guido Larisch, cello

5.0 out of 5 stars El Cuarteto Apponyi es una maravilla..., March 21, 2005
