I was looking for a potato masher that I could use directly in my cooking pot, if needed. I discovered also that it crushed a can of whole tomatoes very nicely. I haven't had it for very long but am very pleased so far and expect that the plastic and the spring will hold up over the long run.

I had purchased the colander and decided to try the masher. This is the best one yet. It doesnot look like it would mash, but it does a wonderful job. Cleanup is also very easy,

Dishwasher safe, all plastic (should be safe to use in non-stick pans when it comes time to smash beans and veggies for soup) except for the spring, and a great lime green color. Would have loved this in Joseph Joseph eggplant and, so far, that's my only disappointment.

021/12 update: Bought this to smash beans and used it this evening on chick peas for a chicken/sausage soup recipe of mine. Used canned chick peas for the convenience, it took some rocking and rolling of the smasher, but I was still pleased with the results.

On the other hand, the smasher looked liked a complete mess, and I was not looking forward to cleaning it. I used a paring knife to scrap the remaining chunks of smashed chick peas into the soup and was then left with a smasher clogged with smashed chick pea residue. I was very surprised, however, to see that just a quick rinse under the faucet cleaned the smasher.
