5.0 out of 5 stars Best Biblical Fiction Book on Joseph EVER, March 15, 2004
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
This book is great. I loaned my first copy to a friend and they lost it. I loved this book so much I was willing to spend another $22 to get another copy. The story lines are excellent and you realize that Joseph was just willing to be used by God, despite his background and trials. You really just see him growing in his faith. Also the aother characters are great. Note to those who think she just made up a lot of the names, when refering to Ishmaelites (Jetur and Mishma) she did not make the names up Jetur was really a son of Ishmael and the name of Mishma is used in the records of Ishmael's sons as well she just makes it seem like Jetur named him after his brothes both are listed in the Bible (1 and 2 Chronicles has the geneological lists) so Terri really did a good job in researching this book. I think this is the best biblical fiction book ever. You will just love seeing how Joseph and his Egyptian wife Asenath fall in love. And seeing some of the nasty Egyptian nobles get their just deserts if really funny. Also Joseph's willingness to forgive Potiphar. And his reunion with his father is so beautful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise in the realm of Christian fiction!, October 3, 2003

This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
I have never claimed to be a fan of Christian literature in any form, and most likely never will. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised at the incredible depth and spirit of this book. Joseph is not only incredibly well-written in general (and truly astounding when compared to similar Christian historical fiction) but it is chock full of humor, heart, and real life lessons that Christians and non-Christians alike can learn from.

Forget the cliched story of Joseph you grew up hearing about- Fivash presents him as the real person he was. He made mistakes, he doubted God, long story short- he was human, just like you and me. I cannot stress enough how much I absolutely love this book and encourage you to read it.

The only word of advice I have, and which I see has been mentioned by other reviewers is this: Make time in your schedule to read it, because you won't be able to put it down once you've started!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reading it for the fourth time . . . ., August 9, 2005
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
Don't think I will ever get tired of this story! I love the way she has set up the political situations--so logical. The way Joseph processes his emotions are so realistic. Great book!! I hope she will write many more books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Want It to End, April 5, 2005

This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
I haven't read a book this compelling since 1991. Terri Fivash sees Joseph as a very real, complex human being, complete with a full range of emotions. Her integration of Hebrew and Egyptian cultures was fascinating. I can't wait to read her next, and next, and next.........

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've ever read!, March 2, 2005
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
This book is incredibly well written! I read it three times in the first three weeks, six times in the first three months, and out loud to my family three times. To date I have read it fourteen times. I read lots of books several times over, but this one is especially exceptional! (Sherri Monks)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite Books, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book so much that I have read it at least four times. In fact, it has been just about long enough for another re-reading.

The Bible says little of the daily life of Joseph, dwelling on the high points of his life. Terri reminds us that Joseph was a real man, with real feelings, likes and dislikes, and questions and doubts about God just as we all have. And yet God worked through him to bring about a rescue, not just for the children of Abraham, but for the entire known world.

Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible insight to a common story, March 16, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
Not too sure where to start - got the book on Friday, finished Thursday morning (work prevailed too often).

I have always loved the story of Joseph, and how he was a true man, honoring his God in everything. Yet, the stories we are told as kids seem a fable - he did no wrong (other than be a pest to his brothers).

Terri took the historical background and created a story of a believable man, with temptations like we all have, with a temper on occasion, losing sight of what God had in mind - a man that we can relate to.

Looking at the reviews here, it only makes sense that this book rates only 5-star reviews. I thought I was familiar with the story, but as the background weaves in and out of what is in Genesis, things begin to click and gel in a way that I could not possibly imagine.

I can only say thank you to Terri for her incredible ability to put me there with Joseph, experiencing his reality, understanding the politics and customs of Egypt.

Bottom line - take time out to read the book - you won't get much other stuff done, and when you do finish, the story will haunt you to change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on the Life of Joseph, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
I totally agree with all the other comments on this book. I've read a few other biblical novels on Joseph but this book beats them all. I love the way Fivash portays Joseph's character and interactions. It is not only very Biblically accurate, but thoroughly researched and authentic. Fivash puts logical underlying reasons why Joseph was put into prison and how he ended up being sold to Potiphar. Fivash is a true student of the Bible. If you want some further Biblically based reading on the life of Joseph that coincides with Fivash's portrayal of Joseph's character, just read Patriarchs and Prophets by E.G. White.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grippingly good!, November 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Joseph (Paperback)
I've read it once to myself, another time out loud to my wife, and a third time out loud to my kids all in a few weeks and enjoyed it each time!

If you know the story of Joseph well, the very first part of the book may seem too familiar, but as she weaves politics and personalities into the tapestry of history, the story deepens and resonates with intrigue.

A great read!
