4.0 out of 5 stars EX TOTO singers first album, December 2, 2001
This review is from: Joseph Williams (+2 Bonus Tracks) (Audio CD)
If ever you want to hear a quintessential West Coast American male voice over some of the most inspired arrangements of soft rock guitar/ synth songs, then aside from TOTO, look no further.
Josephs voice is superbly produced and used to generous effect on such ballads as One More Chance and Nothings lost, both of which are almost a lesson in how to be a ballad singer.
Hell, if you can figure the timing of the opening track What is She Hiding then let me know, it's a superb driving rock opus equalled in style only by I Didn't Do It, another pre TOTO but very similar sounding groove.

I can only find one fault with this album.....IT'S TOO SHORT!

This is the kind of stuff that helped define the West Coast Sound and it is sorely missed in a world of mididrivel and sampled hiphop.
Hey Joseph, get yer credit cards out, give Luke, Paich & pals a call and show em how it's done!

If you enjoy this album, buy Fahrenheit or The seventh One by Toto, both feature Jo as the main vocalist.
Imagine it, one of the best voices in it's genre backed up by the greatest purveyors of American Rock ever.

The musicians on this album may as well be a TOTO get together, rest assured,if you like the first 7 albums by Toto you'll flippin love this CD.
I only have the vinyl version and it is fantastic so the CD will blow you away. Buy it. Own a piece of L.A.
Own a piece of classic American rock.
But at all costs.......ignore the daft cover shot of our hero..
Toto made a damn good choice

3.0 out of 5 stars Williams in the raw., July 10, 2001
By
"severyn@localnet.com" (Stuyvesant Falls, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Joseph Williams (+2 Bonus Tracks) (Audio CD)
Ex-Toto lead vocalist takes a stab at being solo. This album is somewhat raw from what fans may be used to with Toto in terms of instrumental harmony. Although Williams' talent as a high note vocalist takes precedence in this album, accompanied with a basic 80's sound of good old fashioned rock. Fans of Williams will enjoy his debut album.
