5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Concert!
I've been a Josh Groban fan ever since I saw his performance on Sarah Brightman's La Luna concert DVD. I was ecstatic when I found out he was releasing his own CD, and was doubly excited to learn he was releasing a DVD.

I rushed to buy this DVD the day it was released, and all I have to say is the other viewers aren't lying when they're saying this is good stuff...

3.0 out of 5 stars Josh Groban in Concert
Agreed wholeheartedly with review of person from Denver, CO. The choice of Angie Stone (not Charlotte Church) was not a good one and the absence of "O Holy Night" was especially disappointing for me because I did purchase the DVD/CD in December and was looking forward to seeing as well as hearing this beautiful duet. However, I've read Charlotte Church is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Concert!, June 17, 2003
This review is from: Josh Groban In Concert (with Bonus CD) (DVD)
I've been a Josh Groban fan ever since I saw his performance on Sarah Brightman's La Luna concert DVD. I was ecstatic when I found out he was releasing his own CD, and was doubly excited to learn he was releasing a DVD.

I rushed to buy this DVD the day it was released, and all I have to say is the other viewers aren't lying when they're saying this is good stuff. The quality of this recording is second to none. Everything from technical quality to artistic quality is superb. Josh's style is very simplistic; he's a minimalist. However, as the saying goes: "The simplest melodies are the hardest to play." Josh truly proves that. He has just enough flair- not too much as to detract from his voice- and it's just enough pizazz to come off as classy and sublime.

Josh Groban is on his way to becoming one of the greats. He is truly the only singer who's managed to unite heavy metalheads, rap fans, sugar high pop fans, grunge fans, and classical fans under one roof. I have not met a single person who's listened to him and not replied with something to the effect of "Wow" regardless of their musical preference. Such is the power of Josh Groban. Rick Dees even dubbed him "the annointed one."

His genius is his ability to channel into a deep reservoir of emotion, so even though he might be singing in a different language, listeners can understand the song through feeling... and he's only in his early 20's! If you enjoyed his CD, just wait till you get this DVD and can watch him!

Aside from Josh, the thing I was most impressed with on this DVD was the sound. This DVD features CD quality sound, which is a delight.

There's also a whole debate about Angie Stone singing with Josh on 'The Prayer.' I'll have to admit I actually enjoyed Ms. Stone's version more than the CD version with Charlotte Church. I felt, personally, that Ms. Stone's technique was better than Charlotte's. No, I'm not saying Charlotte doesn't have talent- she is a powerhouse of talent- but experience counts for just as much. Charlotte, lately, has a tendency to waver just below or just above the actual note. She falls either flat or sharp of the note. Ms. Stone may hail from an R&B background, but she hit each note on key, and she brought a different flavor to the song, one that was very vibrant and natural. Suffice to say, I really enjoyed the change-up. To each his or her own =)

I have only discovered Josh in the past year or so. Each time i hear him he sends chills up and down my body with his wonderful voice that i'm positive God has made special for him.Today i received my concert DVD with the CD. I watched the concert twice tonight each time with the same wonderful reaction of tears and pleasure of this unbelievable talented young man.If i had to pick one favorite above all that is available on the concert DVD i'd have to pick the song "Let Me Fall." The words are the most powerful i have ever heard in a song, the backdrop is breathtaking and the ending of the song plus what he does on stage (don't want to give it away) just plain makes me cry because the beauty of the song, the meaning of the words, the climatic finish is turly a masterpiece that will grab your heart, take you breath away all at the same time. No concert that i have ever seen has ever had the emotional effect on me as this one did.I hope he goes down in history as one of the greatest singers of all songs of all time. I'm not a collector of autographs or stuff like that, but i'd wait days just to shake his hand and say "thank you Josh." This is how impressed i am.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have item for music lovers, October 22, 2002
This review is from: Josh Groban In Concert (with Bonus CD) (DVD)
Though this DVD is still in the making as I'm making this review, I'm truly confident that it will be a best seller when it is released. Many of my fellow Grobanites(Josh Fans) are already preordering this item like crazy. Witnessing the PBS taping of Josh in LA which will also be covered on this DVD, I can attest to you all that it is truly an amazing concert. Josh will be singing all of his songs from his first album in a live concert with a backup orchestra. I just want to relive that moment through this DVD. Interestingly, from what I heard(which can still change)the DVD will also contain special features like additional footage of Josh with David Foster, John Williams, and friends. The included CD is a plus which I think will contain some of Josh songs not covered by his first album. One indication is that Josh have one christmas song, "O Holy Night" in it. In any rate, this CD\DVD package will truly be treasured by many and are eagerly anticipating its release. But don't take my word, see it, hear it, and you'll talk more about it or even become a Grobanite someday. Don't tell me I didn't remind you because someday you'll know what I mean. See further details of this CD\DVD package as they become available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo! Excellent., January 23, 2005
This review is from: Josh Groban In Concert (with Bonus CD) (DVD)
This is everything a concert DVD should be. Visually and artistically lovely, terrific sound and vocal perfection. If you're going to drop good money you should get your money's worth. Try to compare this to Josh Groban's latest "Live at the Greek," and you can't. There's no comparison. Groban's voice is so beautiful and the performance so clear it's just terrific. This is the concert that earned him international accolades. The Greek is bringing him down something awful. Hopefully Josh Groban will do some soul searching and realize that his concert groupies are not even buying the new Groban. This is what made him terrific. A gorgeous voice in a perfect forum. Not the slovenly looking laid back and nasaly person we hear at the Greek. If you haven't bought a concert DVD by Groban yet, get this one. It's without flaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Josh Experience", October 18, 2002

This review is from: Josh Groban In Concert (with Bonus CD) (DVD)
This DVD is from his first TV Concert. It is "Great Performances" on PBS. The visual effects are a first to be seen on a PBS special. This DVD is history in the making...A super "Josh Experience" The guest stars are John Williams, Angie Stone and Lili Haydn. For the people that are not acquainted with pop classical, now is the time to experience it. How refreshing to listen to music that speaks to the heart, and lets it soar.

The DVD outtakes are also a never before seen experience. How this young man can unite people from all different states and countries, to meet together in love and togetherness. Age also was no barrier. Mothers sitting alongside with their children, people young and old, appreciating the common link that bonds us all..feelings in the heart.

If you never buy another DVD, you owe it to yourself to get the chance to expand your horizons, find the light behind the clouds, lift your heads in joy, raise your arms in freedom, sing out..grow..change..the Josh experience, is NOW

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow...what a joy to listen to!!, December 3, 2002

If you have the Josh Groban album and have enjoyed it, then this DVD will certainly be one that you will enjoy as well. It is not just a concert, as there are many special effects and creative uses of the stage, although none of it takes away from the music itself. Josh of course sings superbly with better vocal technique than on his current album. He has truly grown as a performer and singer and will continue to do so throughout his career. This is a DVD well worth your money if this is your taste in music. Even if you are not one to jump on the "pop-classical" genre, then this is a good introduction. I highly recommend this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Josh Groban's Best by far, January 23, 2005

I first watched this concert on PBS then ran to my store to buy it!! This concert is perfectly sung by Josh Groban and his voice is so lovely it's hard to describe. The sets, guests, and music all mesh to provide one of the best concerts I've ever seen and I've seen many. The sound is so perfect you have to listen well to realize it's recorded "Live". I bought "Live at the Greek" also but was very disappointed in that one. With this, you get everything you could want and that includes an exquisite performance by Josh Groban.

5.0 out of 5 stars His voice sounds even better on this Dvd., December 12, 2002

How do we explain the appeal of Josh Groban?.It's the voice that astonishes, mesmerizes, and transcends.I had expected little from the concert .Was I ever wrong. It is refreshing to see how Josh seems to display this sense of "I can't believe this is really happening to me" all during the concert. His fans cheer, and applaud loudly during the concert, but you never get the feeling that Josh is anything if not astonished himself that people are there to listen to his extraordinary voice.

The production values are very high on this DVD, from the lighting, imagery on projection screens, and his many special guests."The Prayer", which I have seen many times on TV, is by now a classic. The new approach he takes with Angie Stone is refreshing and very moving.I have watched this DVD repeatedly and never tire of the music. For this is the appeal of the DVD.The sound on it is spectacular and you will notice this right away.

Treat yourself, take your shoes off, sit back and enjoy. You will feel like you are sitting in the audience of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium watching Josh perform. The performance is that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Josh has raised the bar for concert DVDs!!!, April 12, 2003

Tiger Little (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Josh Groban In Concert (with Bonus CD) (DVD)
I own Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church, Celine Dion, and Secret Garden's DVDs. While I love all their music and songs, Josh's beat all others in terms of QUALITY of concert production. ...

** Sound Recording:
Turn on your 5.1 home theatre system, Josh's DVD will put you at a front seat of his concert. More importantly, the concert hall has excellent acoustic effects, ideal for classical music and vocal. The surround sound quality of this concert virtually matches the quality of studio recording...

** Video Recording
Josh's DVD offer excellent stage lighting, camera angles and video editing. ...

** Stage Peformance
Josh performed well on the stage: natural and relaxed, plus a few stage acts. ...

**** Bottomline: Josh has raised the par for Concert DVDs! Now, let's see who outperforms him.

A MUST have for any Josh fan. I love the extras on the dvd, which were shot by Chris Groban, Josh's brother. It's so nice to see the humorous 'silly Josh'. "Oh Holy Night" brings me to tears each time I hear it. All of Josh's songs do, because his voice is THAT powerful, but "Oh Holy Night" especially.
