A definite must for any Ritter fan or for any fan of music.

His musical influence is varied, and it comes through in this album in a way that comes together and makes sense.

I've listened to this album once and I can't imagine spending any more time listening to it.

This is an album of songs he recorded while he was attending Oberlin college in Ohio. These songs are pure gold and vintage Josh Ritter. If you've loved any of his albums so far, then don't hesitate to pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.
The greatness of his music seems almost effortless. The songs are so easy to listen to that I keep wondering if I've heard them before. These are classic songs, among the best of his catalog. A definite must for any Ritter fan or for any fan of music.

Key Track: Leaves and Kings

I first met Josh while we were both studying abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland. We met at this awful open mic at the Tron Ceilidh House and we had a few jam sessions that turned out to be nothing more than playing our latest songs for each other. I was struck by Josh's command of timing and unbelievable ability to draw you in with his lyricism. The bottom line here is GREAT songs that suck you into Josh's world for a while, and the vulnerable charm that is the trademark of his live show really comes through on this CD. Get it now, because Josh will be around for a long time to come.

I "discovered" Josh right after 9/11 in a small intimate gathering at Club Passim in Cambridge MA. That night I found one of the best of today's singer-songwriters. This CD remains one of my favorites. His lyrics are clever, intimate, singable, unforgettable. Once you've heard Josh's songs, you will be totally spoiled by their richness and you'll never listen to folk/folk-rock with the same ears again.

I listen to to this one over and over. Ritter's music is smart without being tedious, catchy without being inane. It's everything folk music aspires to be - and everything pop music should be. His musical influence is varied, and it comes through in this album in a way that comes together and makes sense.

Josh Ritter is simply entertaining! I see about 30-40 live shows each year and I am most impressed with his smart, yet sensitive, lyrics. His tuning is unique. The combination tugs at your soul and reminds one to celebrate both the joys and angst of everyday life, everyday love. Josh obviously invests his heart in his music and he has a very charming presence.
You'll feel as though you were invited to listen in on private back porch sessions. I heartily recommend Josh Ritter's CDs.

Josh Ritter is one of the most gifted singer/songwriters to come along in awhile. This CD is constantly in my boom box and the songs haunt you long after you've stopped listening. Don't be turned off by its classification as "folk," his music is so much more complicated and beautiful.
