This book will change your relationships with food & body,
By Amester17 (Exeter, NH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
That is not an exaggeration. I read this book somewhat skeptically, thinking, Oh, c'mon, another bloody fad endorsed by Gwyneth Paltrow, for heaven's sake. However, after I'd started to read, I found a great deal of sense in what Dr. Joshi says. And I started to detox. I have been on for 26 days now and have lost somewhere around 16 pounds. Amazing. Even more amazing is the way my skin looks, the amount of energy I feel and, for the very first time, the fact that I am no longer suffering extreme PMS.
It's easy to get into the detox plan. However, a big warning here: MOST people get sick on the 2nd or 3rd day of the detox: it's the toxins leaving our bodies. I had a migraine, nausea and exhaustion. Once it left, I started feeling fantastic. Try this programme. It will really change the way you see your relationship with food and also with your body.

Lose weight fast!,
By
This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
It's true what the book says - if you don't notice results in two weeks, then you must be cheating. I've lost 7 lbs. in the first 12 days and I've even cheated a few times! Dr. Joshi claims that if you stick with his detox for 21 days, then you will no longer crave sugar. I'm a major addict and so far, still badly crave chocolate. I've got a little over a week to go and it's hard to imagine that it could still work, but I'm going to stick it out and see. The book is easy and interesting to read and the plan simple. The one frustrating part is that if you have a question, there really is no where to get an answer. The book must not be in the U.S. yet, so there aren't people here to chat with. And I certainly can't make the trip to England to visit with Dr. Joshi. But the recipes and food are simple enough that you can find just about all of the ingredients here and I'm even in Iowa. I don't know that I will adopt this way of life after the detox. I'm not sure that I want to be cured of craving sugar. I enjoy it, but I plan to enjoy it in moderation. I will definitely keep this book on a nearby shelf as I think it'd be great to do the 21 day detox every couple months. If you are interested in buying this book, don't wait too long to order it. It comes from England and takes several weeks to get here!!! It was a long wait, as I was anxious to get started.

not bad, but not really based in any fact either.,

This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
I had a hard time reviewing this one because the results were good, but some of the content of the book were questionable, if not down right confusing. So, I'll start with the positive. On the plus side, I was able to complete the three week detox and I did feel allot better, my acid stomache disappeared completely, I was no longer bloated and I lost 7 pounds. It also was not that hard to stick to, particularly since I like brown rice, love indian type food. It's a bit pricey to find and use gluten free bread and rice milk, but I managed and it's only for three weeks. An interesting side effect is that it's been a month since I went off the detox, I still am losing weight, I think because my taste for things like potato chips and processed snacks has really been changed...I simply don't like the taste anymore. Now, if only the same thing would happen for my desire for chocolate....
The down side is actually the book itself. Nothing he says is backed up with evidence, other than his experiences with anorexic ballerinas and starlets (of which I am neither), and I really have a hard time with some of the case examples claiming they haven't eaten fruit or tomatoes for 2 years, there *is* evidence that fruits like grapes, blueberries, watermelon and tomatos *are* necessary to eat. One reviewer said there is no maintenance plan, there is, but you have to read the book from cover to cover to figure it out, it is far less detailed than the detox plan (I see he now has a life time follow up to this book, so maybe he pulls it together there). Finally, completely skip the chapter on Ayruvedic eating, it's useless and confusing. I managed to test out as having all three doshi, and couldn't figure out if that meant I could eat everything or nothing! Summary, I liked the effects of the detox and will likely do it again (as he suggests), but I think you just have to ignore that this is a plan that has no medical evidence and that in the long run may not be a healthy life style way of eating. But it is a good jump start to loosing wieght or managing your health

Good ideas terrible presentation,
This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
My wife and I have been doing Joshi every January for a number of years and every time we return to the book, we remark on how badly it's done. This is a treasure-trove of ideas, but good luck to you making sense out of them. The book is more a hodgepodge of notions, asides, lists, and suggestions, many of them contradictory. If you can tease it all apart, you'll do fine, but don't count on the book to give you a step-by-step approach. And this is NOT a diet, crash or otherwise, it's a detox; its main goal is to give your liver a break. You'll lose weight on it, but unless you're a diehard, it's not meant to be permanent. Some of the issues we encounter every time we read it: what is the REAL status of dairy foods? (Cow milk out but cottage cheese, yoghurt, and buffalo mozzerella in -- what about sour cream? What about ficelle or buttermilk?; goat's milk out, but feta in ... does that mean you can eat chevre and the many options goat cheese presents? He never says.) Then there are the contradictory lists. He gives you alkaline and acid-producing foods and this is a realkalizing diet. Now potatoes are alkaline. But they're out. Another problem: can you eat oats? People disagree on whether oats have gluten in them, but some reliable sources say it's minimal. It would be great to know if you can have oatmeal for breakfast, but Joshi stays clear of this topic. And eggs: in one place he says you can have them three or four times a week; in another place he says you can EAT three or four eggs a week. And on and on. So if you're a self-starter and you don't mind wading through this terribly disorganized (on-the-verge-of-random) book and finding the gems within, then it's for you. If you're looking for a book to help you all the way through the process, find another detox. This damn book has almost no recipes in it; it gives practical guidance for three weeks of detox in three nearly information-free two-page spreads ...
But we do it because it works.

It's All Relative,
By
This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
I keep running into "detox" programs that ask me to eat eggs and dairy. I know for people eating a very toxic diet, Dr. Joshi's Holistic Detox is a good way to transition to a truly clean diet. But for those of us looking to be slightly alkaline and highly efficient in our digestion, Dr. Joshi's diet doesn't take us very far. Just know that if you are aspiring to a truly non-toxic diet, Dr. Joshi's diet is only good for trasitioning. To go the rest of the way, read and follow anything by Drs. Robert Young or Gabriel Cousens.

Lost 30lbs and counting....,
By
This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
I wast 172lbs (my heaviest ever) last August and I've lost 30 lbs in the past six months and am down to 142lbs. This book was an easy read and very helpful in getting me on the right track to eating right. I've sent three people to Dr. Joshi and all have lost no less than 20 lbs each. I have given this book to countless other friends who can't get to Dr. Joshi and all loved the book. I recommend it to anyone who needs a clear guide in eating right.

Liked it, didn't love it!,

This review is from: Joshi's Holistic Detox: 21 Days to a Healthier Slimmer You - For Life (Paperback)
I went on this detox with very high expectations. Everyone has a different experience on detoxes because we are all so very different. I lost 5 pounds in the 21 days which I am glad for, but I was hoping to lose more. I experienced more detox symptoms on this program than on any other detox (and I have done many!) I have ever been on. I literally felt and saw toxins leaving my body. No, I did not feel great during this regime at all. I could see and feel a film all over my face and body as I was literally emitting toxins through my pores.
I do feel lighter inside and out after following this program. Honestly though I felt the best when I finally went off the program and ate some berries and citrus fruit. I felt like my body was screaming for them. I attribute my worst day to my own fault as the night before (9 days in) I ate some pasta with regrets. But I quickly returned to the regime and was fine. I DO feel like my palate has changed and found myself eating Salmon and greens (by choice) the day after I ended the program.Joshi's Holistic Detox I give this detox 5 stars because although I only lost 5 pounds, this is not a diet it's a detox program and my body definitely detoxed!

It works, it works , it truly works,

This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
First of all, this is the first time that i am compelled to write a review. I have been on this detox for about 17 days now and i have lost about 12 pounds. I was looking into detox diets 18 days ago with an intention of finding something that could help me build discipline again that i had couple years ago. I have always believed in healthy way of getting in shape and i know that there are no shortcuts and i don't even want them because i love the energy part that it brings along. I stumbled over Dr joshi's Detox diet on google where it listed- things to eat and things to avoid list. I simply started following it the following day and placed an order for this book the 2nd week because i couldn't understand why he wouldn't allow nuts, fruits (except bananas),tomatoes and lemons, etc in this detox. But the book took quite some time to get delievered, i just received it couple days ago. I have read almost all of it and the explanation he gives makes a lot of sense. And, now i am a living proof that it works. I just wanted to get disciplined again but it came with shedding few pounds and who would ever mind that. I am going to get married this coming july'09 and i am convinced to continue this longer than just 21 days to loose more pounds. It has not been hard for me at all finding the foods that one can eat on this detox diet. I am very happy that i chose to do this detox and will always take the info that i have gotten from this book and experience for rest of my life. I sure did incorporate some excercise like walking, running, jumping on the trampoline (It is an excellent way for your body to get rid of toxins and easy on your joints. Also, a lot of fun when you dance away your pounds listening to your favourite music.), yoga and stretching. Also, coconut water is an amazing thing. Try it, you will see what i am talking about. By the way, here is the link to how i first got started on this detox programme. I also stumbled over some of the Rawfood diet books (Rawsome, and living cuisine) while doing this detox and i intend on incorporating some of it in my diet after i am off this detox. However, i have no intentions of going totally raw but you never know. You can start the way i did, i just simply followed the rules from this link http://teamsugar.com/group/43626/blog/43933 and, later if you want like i did go ahead and order this book. Good health is a true happiness and i have started to savour it once again in my life. Sorry for writting such a long review but i was compelled to. Go for it......

This book changed my life in three weeks!,
This review is from: Dr Joshis Holistic Detox (Paperback)
I read about this book on Gweneth Paltrow's blog, goop.com. I was skeptical, but gave it a shot.
After three weeks, I feel better, look better, and have more energy than ever. I have lost over 9 pounds in less than 21 days. I will continue with his maintenance plan and follow up on his website. Joshi is brilliant! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve health and lose weight.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Joshi's Holistic Detox: 21 Days to a Healthier Slimmer You - For Life (Paperback)
This is a fab book. however I like in the us and I bought the UK version since its all that was available. And as a result I found out the hard way that this book is made for residents of the UK only. It uses a lot of different slang and language that is uncommon here. And it also has a list of resources of places to shop and workout that obviously wont be good for a us citizen. If you buy it, buy it for the nutrition info only. Otherwise do not buy the imported copy.
