5.0 out of 5 stars great ideas for managing anger, May 14, 2007

This review is from: Josh's Smiley Faces: A Story About Anger (Paperback)
I bought this for my 4 year old who had(has) a hard time controlling his anger. This was a great story for him to understand that he wasn't alone. It also gave great tools for him to use to help him control his temper. There are clear guidelines in the back of the book to help any parent create a system that might work for their house. My son is doing much better with using his words and asking for help.

Very simple and direct look at anger. GREAT idea with the smiley-face chart. Has worked well for my 3year old and helps me to remember that positive reinforcement works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Combines a simple narrative and a step-by-step instructional, November 5, 2004
John's Smiley Faces: A Story About Anger is a book for parents and children alike that doubles as a useful teaching tool that instructs children in the importance of learning how to manage anger, and shows adults ways to help children channel their emotions into productive forces. Offering a "smiley faces" program that reinforces rewards for acceptable behavior and has limit-setting consequences for inappropriate physical expressions, John's Smiley Faces combines a simple narrative and a powerful step-by-step instructional that is extremely useful for teaching young people valuable life lessons. In a note to parents, a psychologist discusses both the value of anger and the critical importance of developing good coping skills early.
