5.0 out of 5 stars Please don't miss the point!!!
In reading some of the other reviews about the "Joshua" books, I was dismayed to see people commenting on grammatical errors and the "lack" of technical expertise in some of the characters.Don't you realize that the points of the story are to love, forgive, help, heal, and respect each other? This is not a series that means to slander anyone's...

2.0 out of 5 stars Theologically Unsound
Having read Joshua and enjoyed it, I snapped this up when I found it. Though the story was okay, I was disappointed in the book, overall. As others have stated, the writing was clumsy - a bit amateurish. The characterization of these inner-city residents was not believable. Still, wading through the less-than-stellar writing would have been worth it for the sake of a...

In reading some of the other reviews about the "Joshua" books, I was dismayed to see people commenting on grammatical errors and the "lack" of technical expertise in some of the characters.Don't you realize that the points of the story are to love, forgive, help, heal, and respect each other? This is not a series that means to slander anyone's belief in organized religion but only tries to teach the message that sometimes the rules and regulations aren't enough to comfort God's children when they need help and understanding. If the people of the world would take care of each other and share the gifts that God has given, maybe we wouldn't have the problems that we do. And if the only faults some can find with this message are grammatical ones, maybe some are looking too hard for those faults!

5.0 out of 5 stars Girzone does it again!!!, August 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
I have read the entire series of Joshua and found this to be as inspiring as the rest. Father Girzone brings wonderful insight into what Jesus's original message was for all of us. He shows us that so much of what divides us as a nation and a world are barriers, such as religious denominations and practices and beliefs created by man to control man. If we would look at Jesus's teachings and apply them to our everyday lives so much of the pain and suffering and problems we all face would get resolved or not exist at all. As Joshua shows us we make things more difficult than what they need to be. Greed and selfishness are the rule today and our young people are learning those lessons well. Girzone makes you stop and consider how would God see my behavior or attitude right now. He makes you think about how the world would view Christ if he did come back now and live as he did centuries ago, simply and selflessly. This author makes Christ and his teachings almost toucha! ble. I hope there will be more in the series. I know I look at the world differently now because of the way Father Girzone has presented looked into the heart of man and of our Father.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, yet inspiring., October 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
I have read the entire Joshua series and can say that, while not terribly cerebral, they give me what few other books can - HOPE! Jesus returns to earth and begins his ministry simply - one person at a time.

It makes me wonder how I would react if I encountered him. I can only pray that my actions would be welcoming and loving.

This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
Having read Joshua and enjoyed it, I snapped this up when I found it. Though the story was okay, I was disappointed in the book, overall. As others have stated, the writing was clumsy - a bit amateurish. The characterization of these inner-city residents was not believable. Still, wading through the less-than-stellar writing would have been worth it for the sake of a really good story. The bigger issue is that the theology presented in the book is atrociously unbiblical. The last thing we need is one more universalist, but that is just what we get in this story. Worse, we get a JESUS who is universalist. What a grievous misrepresentation of the King of kings and Lord of lords! Repeatedly, Joshua equates Yahweh and Allah, Islam and Christianity. Politically correct but Biblically INcorrect, this book is going in the garbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joshua in the Inner City, May 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
While the plot of "Joshua" books by this stage of the series is somewhat predictable, the concept can not fade. Taking on the problems of the inner city, Joshua takes a road that politicians often forget. The poor have pride and want an opportunity to work when it is provided. Society as a whole benefits when more people are working.

In "Joshua in the City", we see the main character in a city that seems to be a pretty obvious take on New York. Joshua begins his encounters in the poor black sections of the city meeting two brothers. He teaches these brothers a trade that impacts the rest of the book almost as much as the other key relationship. When He united Charlene and Jana, He meets Joshua's husband Daniel. Daniel, who is a millionaire, funds the urban building project on which the book is centered.

Joshua predictably encounters ememies and makes many converts as the book continues. But when he gets to speak to Congress, does he make them converts?

Fans of the series are likely to enjoy this book. It is not the best book in the series, but it does leave an impression. I would more accurately give it 4 1/2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joshua Series, April 25, 2006
This review is from: Joshua and the City (Hardcover)
You don't have to be a Theologin to appreciate the series of Joshua. Faith has nothing to do with it. If we simply research the writings of Christ and verify the facts we'd see. Therefore, reading about a Christ like figure should not give people disdain feelings. If Christ was to come back today amongst us as in the Bible we would see simialar events as in every Joshua seried writing. Therefore, we should not feel some state of nausea or that we've been cheated by a fairytale.. To me Joshua and the City along with the rest of Father J. Grizone's books are uplifting and beautiful in it's depictions of all things that are good in this world.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunate for the City, January 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
(The reviewer is actually Joy Class. I don't understand how my son's setting up my account would make it appear that he's the reviewer, when Amazon requested that "Joy" review the book.) Since I'm part of a world-wide movement to observe the Luke 10:10 principles for prayer evangelism to Transform Our World, I can't subscribe to the unbiblical concept of relegating leadership of help for the city to Mary. The Holy Spirit gives gifts and callings to all Christians to be marketplace ministers -- in education, government, and business -- for bringing the Kingdom of God to their cities. I so enjoyed and believe the JOSHUA book because it took personally the call of Christ, but this one is too focused on Catholic doctrine for me to share or apply to my experience of Jesus' love for our cities. Catholics might really enjoy this book, and the author is great. But had I known the Mary doctrine would appear, I would not have purchased it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Josuha, how would you greet him today, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
The Joshua series is my favorites of all the books I read. It is written so real and makes us think of how we would treat Jesus if he were here today. How would we have treated him 2000 years ago. Do we judge people by their cars and clothing or their hearts and actions.

You can really feel the presence of GOD when you read these stories. Each teaches us a lesson is we are open to the ideals.

By A Customer
This review is from: Joshua and the City (The Joshua Series) (Paperback)
I haven't exactly finished the whole book, but what I have read is some of the best stuff. The author did a remarkable job on telling the story and I look foward to reading the rest of the Joshua series.I am only 13 but I can still say it is a good book even tough most people think kids shouldn't get thier own just because they are children but I did like, and my mom is very much looking forward to reading the book when I am done.
