I have always thought it would take God himself to bring peace to the Middle East. In this book, that is basically the case. While the methodology by which the Joshua character seeks to end the turmoil may be idealistic, it is a simple story that any reader can appreciate.

1.0 out of 5 stars UGH!!!
I have always been a fan of the Joshua series for years.

Unfortunately, this latest book was to say the least, painful to read. No flow, no miracles, no inspiration.

I made it about 30 pages into the book and gave up on it.

A real stink bomb!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Peace, January 18, 2008

I have always thought it would take God himself to bring peace to the Middle East. In this book, that is basically the case. While the methodology by which the Joshua character seeks to end the turmoil may be idealistic, it is a simple story that any reader can appreciate.

Having read all of the books in the Joshua series, I found myself disappointed with this book. While the plot is quite idealistic for my liking, the main problem is that there is not enough time devoted to the beloved main character. Joshua only seems to be an active participant on 1/4 of the pages. Since this is the Joshua series, one would think he would be a more active participant in the book.

After experiencing frustration in the paranoid post-9/11 America, Joshua begins bringing people of different faiths together. This is done in America before a chosen representative Elie is sent to the Middle East. Elie visits numerous important figures including fictionalized versions of real leaders. Yet even Joshua seems to know that not everybody will accept peace. But having the masses accept peace is a major step.

While I have really enjoyed the other books of this series, the lack of Joshua in this book left me feeling somewhat cheated. Though all things are possible with God, the plan for peace seemed far too simplistic. More than anything, this book caused me to think how distant peace is from the region. How sad it is that religion is such a source of conflict in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joshua in a Troubled World: A Story for Our Time, September 29, 2007

I found this latest book in the Joshua series by Joseph Girzone to be a fascinating interpretation of how Jesus would react to the post 9/11 climate of fear and distrust were he alive today. I tried to anticipate how the book would unfold, and found that Girzone addressed all the potential problems and possibilities in a very realistic way. I'd highly recommend this book, even if readers have not read the prior Joshua books.

5.0 out of 5 stars JOSHUA in a troubled world, November 11, 2011
The entire Joshua series is a good way to see the love and kindness of Jesus in todays world. This book really hits home becuase of all the turmoil we see in the world today. It lets us know what Jesus thinks and how we can be part of the answer to making it better. The author makes it so caring and real we feel we are hearing the voice of GOD.

I find it very inspiring to read and fell better after having experienced this book. My view of the world changes and I see and feel much more positive.

You can watch the news and become depressed or read this book and be inspired. The story has not changed for centuries and this puts it into perspective. You will be glad you took the time to stop and read this book. It can affect the rest of your life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Joshua Troubled World, October 23, 2010

I have read all the Joshua Series and still feel the 1st one was the best. Actually, this latest book was my least favorite. It did make me question the government wisdom and the paranoid fear generated by how people in general profile others because of religion and terrorist acts. Even though this is fiction, IT seems to me that the author profiles CIA mentality which is what the message it trying to get people to stop doing. Author Grizone seems to spend a lot of text with unnecessary discription, almost as if he were trying to fill up pages. This issue didn't keep me anxiously waiting Joshua's next move but rather had me waiting to move on to the next stage of the plot. If this was the 1st of a "Joshua" series, I believe that Mr Grizone would not have had the following he has today.
Since I enjoyed the others, if he wrote another in the series I would probably read it. I guess it's kind of like Microsoft...just because they came up with really bad operating systems like ME and Vista, that doesn't mean that I am going to give up on the computer. Good Luck to Josephe Grizone.

This review is from: Joshua in a Troubled World: A Story for Our Time (Hardcover)
As I was finishing the book, I couldn't help but think that for what Father Girzone's true wishes through Joshua is wishful thinking for the rest of the world.

The book came out after Yasser Arafat's death. Suppose the peace treaty was signed in front of a worldwide audience? Still, hatred abounds. The radicals like the Al Qaedas and the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Paskistan can never be reasoned with. Even Joshua and Muhammad can never get these two groups to stop the killing of innocent people.

This book was a book listed in the reading program for the United Methodist Women. I have read it and thoroughly enjoyed the way it was presented. I am going to lend it to others in my UMW circle. Thanks so much for the good price also.

4.0 out of 5 stars Joshua, June 25, 2007
Great book but not as good as his first. Very timely, but I was a little let down by its brevity and its "overt preachiness" Recommended reading nonetheless.

As usual, Girzone has a story that relates to everyone, and to our time. A nice read for a trip that gives you something to ponder.
