Editorial Reviews

Review

Ms Erhardt has created this phenomenal story that ensnares the reader from the very first paragraph. I couldn't put the book down until the very last page. (5 angels, recommended read)

If you need a book to lift you up, this is the one to read. But make sure you have a lot of tissues handy for the tears of frustration and joy that are sure to flow as the story unfolds. 5 stars

If you are looking for a heartwarming and touching suspense, then I'd recommend this one. --longandshortreviews.blogspot.com

The reader will finish the book having learned about a person's loss of faith and the incredible journey to find it again while in the midst of a whirlwind of murder, suspense and lack of trust. --Simply Romance Reviews

The characters are so clearly drawn you immediately have a rapport with them and feel you could be friends, although there are a couple of characters I wouldn't want to meet on a dark night - or even in daylight, come to that. --Between the Lines

From the Author

This book came straight from my heart. As a stepmother of four children, I experienced Hope's pain as she struggled to gain custody of her stepson. Having experienced domestic abuse in my first marriage, just as Hope did, her experiences brought back memories, which although painful, are part of the healing process. Today I'm happily married to my soulmate. Our blended family of eight children has truly blessed me.

More About the Author

Carol Ann Erhardt left her full-time day job at the beginning of 2010. Her vision was that she'd get up every day and head down to her office where she'd spend at least 8 hours writing. That was the dream.

The reality: Carol Ann found her love for crocheting again and loves watching old reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond, The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, and Little House on the Prairie. But these aren't idle hours. She creates beautiful prayer shawls and other items for her Church ministry.

Gardening was never on her agenda. Now she mows the lawn, pulls weeds, nurtures plants and flowers, and maintains a small fish pond including a fountain and small bridge. The pond is filled with gorgeous and BIG koi fish and an occasional frog enjoys croaking while sitting on the "fake" lily pads.

Laundry, housecleaning, producing a weekly bulletin for her church, and working part-time at the church preschool occupy other hours of her day.

Oh, yes, and in her spare time when she feels up to it, she gets on her treadmill (installed with a small shelf to hold her laptop), turns it to 2.0 mph, fires up the laptop and writes what she loves...inspirational romance.

NOTE: Carol Ann's first two books, HIT AND RUN and FOXFIRE were written for the secular romance audience and are not classified as Christian.

She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).

Product Description:
Hope Courtland escaped her marriage to save her life. Her only regret is leaving her four-year-old stepson, Joshua, behind. Though she wants custody, no attorney is willing to tackle her ex-husband in a custody battle. Hope's faith begins to falter. She learns that Joshua is paying the consequences for her freedom, and in an act of desperation, she kidnaps him. Suddenly, she becomes a suspect in her ex-husband's murder.

Zack Stone is content to be sheriff of Pine Cove, Tennessee, where the worst conflict he deals with is handing out speeding tickets. Though his faith is strong, he struggles with issues of forgiveness surrounding his wife's death. When he rescues Hope in a rainstorm, the last thing he expects is to find a woman who stirs his heart. Being a small town sheriff shouldn't involve kidnapping and murder, but Zack can't turn his back on Hope and the little boy she loves.

JoAnn's Thoughts:

Ms Erhardt pens a gripping story, which will impact the reader and grip their hearts as the characters come to life on the pages. Here's just a tiny sample of the depth of emotion and questioning the main character, Hope, deals with ... (Hope speaking here)"If God knows what our lives are going to be, then He must know when and how we're going to die. How can He let something so evil happen to a good person? Explain that to me."

This was more than just a story of a romance, it was a story of forgiveness, redemption, and faith. I loved every minute of it and I highly recommend you place this story on your TO BE READ list.

Hope has gotten free from a bad marriage, but leaving her stepson Joshua behind is breaking her heart. Her ex, a powerful and corrupt attorney, uses the little boy as a means of keeping Hope under his thumb. Other lawyers refuse to take her case.

Hope finds friendship in a small town, and a tentative love begins to bloom between her and the local sheriff. But when Joshua's life is threatened, Hope kidnaps her beloved stepson from his father's house. Soon the evil and violence surrounding Hope's ex-husband is directed at Hope and Joshua, putting their lives in danger.

This was a touching story that lingers with the reader long after reaching "The End." I worried about that poor little kid for the whole book! The love story between Hope and the sheriff was full of warmth, and the danger and suspense really kept me on the edge of my seat. Hope's struggle with her faith in God is well-integrated into the story, but it doesn't come off as "preachy" at all. Definitely worth reading.

I highly recommend this gripping, warm story told with grace and flowing style. Hope's steadfast mother's love for Joshua overcomes her personal fears and stokes her courage to fight for Joshua's safety. Selflessly she's determined to protect her stepson from her despicable ex-husband. I loved the small town environment and the local sheriff Hero. One of the best summer reads this year.

There are so many things I loved about this wonderful inspirational romance - chief among them are the hero and the adorable puppy. But the best part is the heroine's love for her stepchild. I think the fact that Hope is protecting her step-child (as opposed to her own child) makes this story extra-special and really made me love her as a heroine. I could not put this book down and found myself reading into the wee hours of the night!

I could tell from the very first page that this book was going to pluck my heart's strings and oh I was right. Joshua is Hope Courtland's step son. She's divorced her husband, an affluent attorney. He's also an abusive man. Hope is trying to gain custody of her stepson. He may be in danger. Hope loves Joshua as her own. She's been his mommy since he was a baby and her heart hurt to leave the boy with his volatile father. Zack Stone is the town's sheriff with a past of his own. He's a kind man and Hope instantly sees in him everything she's wishes her husband could have been.

Joshua's Hope is a great romantic suspense and an inspirational to boot, sweetly romantic with characters who made the story unforgettable. A definite page turner. I couldn't put it down. Between the plot, characters and the very engaging style of writing, I was completely drawn into this book. A perfect balance between romance, suspense and God. It touched the heart and did not disappoint.

This story is indeed gripping, you won't be able to put it down until you learn the fate of Hope and the little boy. I loved the portrayal of a step-parent's unconditional love for a child, and will definitely read Ms. Erhardt again.

This wonderful romance tore at my heartstrings. I really empathized with the heroine, Hope, and felt for her as she tried in desperation to help her stepson. Her love for this child was pure and deep, showing that motherly love doesn't flow from blood alone. I loved this about Hope.

Then Zack comes along and helps her understand that opening her heart and putting her trust in God is only way to truly be free. He is more than her hero!

And, of course, I was delighted with the addition of the adorable puppy...

I highly recommned this book for anyone who likes great character driven romance. Even if you aren't a romantic suspense fan, you will still love Joshua's Hope!
