Josie Rocks!!!,
By
This review is from: Josie and the Pussycats - The Melody Memory Mix-Up [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a great video of one of my favorite cartoons of all time Josie and the Pussycats is one of the best rock and roll cartoons ever made and I would recommend anyone who likes Rock and Roll cartoons to buy this video and Josie is the coolest and I think that Valerie one of my favorite cartoon characters and the first black female cartoon character and being one of the most smartest cartoon characters they are!!!! I have both of their cds and it is cool and I would reccommend anyone to buy the cds if you enjoy the music in the cartoons I know that I do that is why I had bought the cd to listen to it I know which song was in each episode and I also have a great JOSIE vintage collection of JOSIE's collectibles and to top this off I have a personally autographed sketch of JOSIE by Dan Decarlo it was given to me by a real close friend for a x-mas present a couple of years ago!!!! If you enjoyed the JOSIE cartoons in the 1970's then you would definitely enjoy this cartoon!!!!

Classic Cartoons from My Childhood,
By
This review is from: Josie and the Pussycats - The Melody Memory Mix-Up [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ok, first of all, what has happened to children's animation today? Besides being laden with an assortment of annoying characters (e.g., "Pokemon") or computer-animated (Beast Wars) cartoons have lost the appeal that they had during the golden age of television animation. In the 1970s, Hanna-Barbara ruled the television airwaves with a series of successful, enjoyable series that featured cool characters and crazy capers, such as "Scooby Doo." "Josie and the Pussycats" was one of my favorites due to the fact that there was a combination of good music, humor, and adventures . In "Josie and the Pussycats - The Melody Memory Mix-Up" viewers are treated to four classic episodes from this series that was based on the popular Archies Comics charcaters. Featuring all the characters that made the series a hit: Josie, Valerie, Melody, Alan, Alexander, and my two favorite characters Alexandra and Sebastian the cat, this tape is a pleasant trip down memory lane. For those who saw the recent live action film based on the series (which was good) I recommend you view the original series to get an idea of how the characters were portrayed in the comic strip compared to the big screen (story was based on a spoof of modern-day boy bands and commercialism). For new fans who were not alive or to young to remember the series during the 1970s, this videocassette compilation will help you get acquainted with a classic cartoon series. Make sure to get both Josie videocassettes available on Amazon. They are truly worth every cent, especially for a Gen Xer like myself!

The day after I saw Josie and the Pussycats: The Movie, I went to my local Suncoast and bought the two videos of the cartoon and watched them. I thought it wasn't as good as the movie, but still it was a pretty good tape. The thing I wished they would've done for these episodes is: 1. Digitally Remaster them, and 2. PUT THEM ON DVD with GREAT FEATURES! Now I'm sure many josie and the pussycats fans will agree with me. Each episode is around 22 minutes each and four episodes are put on the tape. Josie and the Pussycats RULE! See the movie and then buy the cartoon. Buy the cartoon even if you didn't like the movie.

My personal Valhalla,
By Holly Apollyon "Messiah of Regret and Entropy" (The Overlook Hotel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Josie and the Pussycats - The Melody Memory Mix-Up [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Why can't I live in a world where there are nothing but fine chicks, and those chicks always alternate between miniskirts and pussycat bathing suits? A world where the biggest catastrophe is not making it to the concert on time, stopping intermittantly to foil some kind of inept villain. Why can't I have problems like Allan, the Pussycat roadie, whose biggest concern in life is trying to chose between Josie, a wholesome, redheaded girl-next-door and Alexandra, tempestuous, spoiled, repressed heiress?Well, as least while you're watching this video you can live in that purer, nobler Valhalla. In the Melody Mix-up, Melody, my favorite Pussycat, accidentally becomes the keeper of scientific secrets. The girls take down the Hawk, a dork in a blimp who needs to teamed up with the Black Widows from Every Which Way but loose. In the Great Pussycat Chase, the girls try to keep the mysterious Black Box from falling into the hands of the Shadow. The Shadow is at least a little more foreboding than the Hawk, though barely above Mumm-Raa in the villian effectiveness department. In Never Mind a Mastermind, the girls coincidentally tangle with the Mastermind, a very Scobby Doo-ish bad guy trying to wrest control of a top-secret gravitational device. In Strangemoon Over Miami, the Pussycats takle Strangemoon, who is without a doubt the lamest of all the villains combined; this dork wants to launch a satellite that will attrack meteorites to the earth. Good thinkin', there, Strangemoon. You'll be in the Skeletor club for inept villains before you know it. Please, join me in this Valhalla. It's a wonderful place. The girls are nice and the bad guys impotent and all of your problems can be solved within 30-minute timeframes. Am I recommending this video? You bet I am. TWO BIG THUMBS UP!!!

A rockin' trip down memory lane!!,

When I first bought this at Suncoast Video, I was somewhat apprehensive; I didn't really know if they would still be as good since I last saw the show when it was in syndication and I in the fifth grade in the mid-80's. Besides, I don't get Cartoon Network where I live in northern Indiana. But, I thought, oh well, who knows, what the heck? I'll just surprise myself. And what a wonderful surprise it was!! The whole video is chock-full of cornball humor that is downright hilarious and catchy, be-boppin' rock songs!! ("Inside, outside, upside down/backwards, forwards, frontwards too" from the first ep. on the video of the same title.) There are only two things that I didn't like about the video: 1.) Why is that Josie, the title character has so few apeaking lines in comparison to the other characters? They all have something to say except for Josie. Guess that's treatment for a lead singer of a rock group, is it? 2.) In the third ep. titled "Never Mind a Master Mind", the band is performing in Amsterdam, where there's a sign on a shop that says "Frankfurter". For geography purposes here, why not stick to the Dutch, and not the German language? Any little kid watching this will probably think otherwise. Not to mention, while they're trying to ditch the villain dogging them, Alan gets carried away with wearing one disguise after another and Alexandra goes overboard hamming it up like she does. (Like when she shows off her expertise at a scientists' convention, she goofs and goes off twirling non-stop in the air.) On the other hand, the other three eps. have songs and humor both pretty fun to watch. I was probably sounding too negative earlier, but if you have a longing for clean-cut, familly-oriented entertainment and 70s TV, then don't miss out on it!! |
