Format: Paperback
This text is waaaaay in the public domain (Hakluyt 1893) and should be free, in the first place, but even "free," it would not be worth the price unless your purpose is to do a critical study of the translation.

Markham's is known as one of the poorest translations of the log/diary/journal of Columbus's first voyage. There are many, but a list of "the best" would include (especially for academic purposes) Dunn and Kelley's "The Diario of Christopher Columbus's First Voyage to America, 1492-1493" edited and translated with a diplomatic transcription of the manuscript and images of Bartolomé de las Casas's autograph transcript.

The pricey synoptic edition of Francesca Lardicci is strongly recommended as a reference for academic purposes. (Can be found in research libraries.)

For those not concerned with exact language, linguistic analysis, specific academic purposes, see those of Samuel Eliot Morison and Robert Fuson. Cecil Jane's translation from the 1930s (the later, annotated version) is also useful, but later ones are often better. These are usually available in research and even public libraries. I wish for one of them on Kindle . . . .

This was a most interesting and engaging book, mainly due to the thought process of Christopher Columbus day to day.
In writing my book, this book was instrumental, information rich and a keepsake for my library.

Format: Paperback
The Columbus Ship's log, or journal, was a major source information when I wrote my book, "The Cartographer-1492." It is a tremendous help for any researcher and in addition a terrific read for anyone interested in history. You'll find surprise after surprise as you discover the facts about this voyage of discovery. Othniel Seiden.
