About the Author

Jaspre Bark is a novelist, children's author and graphic novel writer. His work has been translated into five different languages and his educational books are used in schools throughout the United Kingdom to improve literacy among 12 to 16 year olds. Prior to this he worked as a film, theatre and art critic for the British National Press. His play A Glasgow Kiss was awarded a Fringe First at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1999. He has collaborated with many contemporary fine artists on performances and installations, including Turner Prize winner Keith Tyson. Jaspre's research into these inventions is the culmination of a life long fascination with the works of Leonardo da Vinci.

A fascinating book with very detailed imagery & pop-ups...a few even took it to a second level using pull tabs or string. Gave it as a gift and just had to have one for myself too!

Bought this for my son for Christmas who is going to college for engineering. He absolutely loved it. The way the inventions pop up and can be moved is wonderful.

A gorgeous, detailed book with very complex pop-ups that will be appreciated by collectors and those with an interest in the arts or engineering. For da Vinci fans this book is a feast of beautiful, three dimensional models based on his own drawings with wonderful commentary. This book would not be suitable for young children as the models are very complex and some require fiddly manipulation.

The book is a great idea! I have it on my bookshelf, and opened up, and people love it. It has animated pop-up 3D blueprints, however some of them are shoddy at best. Considering it's in a book, and needs to close, I understand the difficulty of having paper animated with string suspension. I just wish they could devise a way to insure the longevity of the book's lifespan. Nonetheless, I didn't pay an arm & a leg & a great conversation starter for the artist. GOOD BUY!

The pop ups are AMAZING. My 6 year old was very fascinated with this book when she first got it. I tried to read her some parts but she wasn't interested, so I just ended up telling her about Da Vinci myself. Cute book.
