Book Description

January 1, 2007
This book contains just about everything you'll need to help you open the door, break through your resistances, and get started with your journal writing. The sooner you begin your writing life, the sooner you will discover the magic and power that you carry within. You will define the magic that appears in front of you as you write. It can show itself as venting-just releasing feelings and thoughts that have been bugging you, as brainstorms that offer you meaningful insight and wisdom, or the magic may show itself to you in subtle patterns that you become aware of days or weeks later. You can be sure that you will find the magic . . . once you actually begin. Please remember, your journal will reflect you perfectly and will not follow any formula-nor should it. The power of the journal lies in the fact that it is a perfect reflection of you. It's impossible do it 'wrong.' Your journal is a place where you have the opportunity to learn about the multifaceted being that you truly are! You are stepping into a brand new relationship with your self-which can, in turn, impact all your other relationships!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty useless, July 31, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Journal Magic! Lessons in Therapeutic Writing (Paperback)
I own a bazillion journaling books and use them as resources both for myself and when I teach memoir and life-writing. This book, honestly, made me mad. Everything in the book kowtows to these magical Journal Cards, which were created by...Meyn herself. Before you go lookin', they're out of print. If you play by her instructions, NOT having Journal Cards means you can't do ANYTHING with this book. If you play fast and loose, and make up what you might think is in a Journal Card, you can get by, but not any better than what you might get with any other standalone journaling book.

The exercises other reviewers were raving about (clustering, freewriting, etc) can be found in ANY book on journaling, and are often handled much better. Get Adams, either of her books, instead of this one, to find better-explained and more valuable journaling resources than this book-alone (without Journal Cards) can give you. Maybe WITH the cards it's positively amazing, but just this book, freestanding, no. You can do better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the Magic begin..., September 3, 2007
This review is from: Journal Magic! Lessons in Therapeutic Writing (Paperback)
Journal Magic has introduced me to journaling. It is easy to read, understand and follow. Meyn does a wonderful job of taking you by the hand to teach the basics, as well as knowing just when to let you go on your own. I have found myself surprised and enlightened by my journal entries. I recommend this book and Meyn's journal cards as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and transforming, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Journal Magic! Lessons in Therapeutic Writing (Paperback)
I'm amazed at how much more depth I can achieve in my writing, thinking and processing by utilizing exercises in "Lessons In Therapeutic Writing." Indeed, Sue gently takes me on an encouraging path that keeps me going, breaking barriers I have not even been able to see on my own, thereby helping me discover insight that strengthens my issues. The clairty I get from these exercises is transforming. I get many "ah-ha's" here. Thanks Sue for putting your life's work into writing!
