as a frequent reader, sometimes wary of immature "chick lit," this was a pleasant surprise to take on vacation. Caught myself laughing out loud on the beach. And you really want things to work out for this character, appreciate her ability to confront the horrors we've all had growing up and then being single. Great book, really loved it. Perfect relaxing, but attention-holding vacation book!

Unlike the main character, my personal life is in order. But like the main character, I was burnt out of my professional life. I thought the writing and story was very insightful of the situations that come when you are a round peg trying to fit into a square hole.

Very funny stories of previous run ins with the male species. Thank God, I don't have anything like that to look back on. You are routing for this character all the way through, and despite some set backs, you just know she will eventually get it right.

Chick-lit at its most formulaic and rote. The author seems to be giving the readers what they've come to expect but it seems like a middling Bridget Jones rip-off. There is much better chick-lit out there.

The book has its fun moments where Kerry gets into typical chick-lit situations. Her analyst has her recording her "mortifying moments" in a journal. Kerry seems to have more than her share currently and in the past(breaking up with boyfriend on prom night, getting arrested for kidnapping when she stages an intervention with a girlfriend).
Unfortunately it's hard to keep all her fellow employees, friends and family straight. You feel little sympathy for her work problems when she's an obvious goof off. She tries to change her karma by volunteering, but her focus is on herself rather than the teen being mentored.
For fans of the Shopaholic books, this attempt lacks the breeziness and light touch that Kinsella achieves. I kept wanting to like the book better, but it seemed to drag on and on.

I expected a sweet and funny beach read. Unfortunately, this book turned out to be predictable and not too funny. The main character is obviously supposed to be an American Bridget Jones, but lacks her nerve and her humor. What we get instead is a weak heroine who spends most of the book feeling sorry for herself amidst "single girl" stereotypes- the interfering mother, the nasty boss, the gay friend, the good-on-paper-but-big-mistake boyfriend. The plot is resolved in a very formulaic and predictable way, and I was left feeling diappointed.

I loved the title of this book and expected to laugh at some of the more "embarrassing moments". I particularly loved the way most chapters flashbacked to these in minute, painfully funny details.

The first half of the book was really good, but then started feeling as though the story started bogging down too much. Nothing much really happens, until the last few pages and the author seemed to turn the main character into an idiot. The whole bird beak head thing was wayyyyyy over the top and not at all necessary to the story (not funny either!). It was painful enough to read the exerpts where Kerry can't seem to open her mouth and speak a coherent sentence (this happened a few too many times). The author was intent on making sure that Kerry got more and more clueless about her surroundings as the story went on.

Also, the whole Dave thing was kind of annoying and went nowhere.

The writing style is great and the basic story was great, but I find myself let down a bit. This was good, but could have been much better.

This book was hilarious. I'm in my 40's, but I still remember what it was like to be looking for Mr. Right. The author has a hilarious perspective, and I laughed until I cried.

This book was great! A simple yet satisfying chick lit book.

Kerry never has any luck with anything. Through her hilarious (mortifying to her) moments we witness her luck (or lack thereof) in finding a man. Once she catches the eye of a man, she is so self conscious that she can't keep him. It's sad at times and mushy at times, but it's a really good book!

"The Journal of Mortifying Moments" is everything a fun girl-gone-silly read should be. It has the requisite bumbling protagonist, equipped with entertaing friends and an unentertaining job. It has the expected cast of love interests and the annoying family. It also has a certain soundness to it: the writing is good (if over-bubbly at times), the plot flows well, and the narrator actually seems to grow over the course of the book. This novel doesn't transcend its genre, but it certainly exemplifies it.

I heard some really great things about this book, and when I was finished I was a little disappointed. I had huge expectations due to what I had heard.

This was an enjoyable read though. I wish the ending would have been a little more clear. It was assumed what would happen with the characters, but not set in stone.

All in all a great book. If you like chick lit or any comedy you'll enjoy this book.
