5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Dear Americas Yet!
I love the Dear America series and read all of them as soon as they come out, but I had never been a big fan of the My Name Is America companion series. However, I read this book because I enjoyed Where Have All The Flowers Gone?, which is the companion to this book, very much. Once I started reading, I couldn't put this down! Any fans of historical fiction or anyone...

3.0 out of 5 stars Average work of fiction
First of all, I want to mention that while based on actual events, this book is a work of fiction. This is easy to miss because of the way the book is written and packaged. Not only is the photo on the cover not of Patrick Seamus Flaherty, but Patrick Seamus Flaherty wasn't even a real person. Learning this *after you buy the book*, as I did, may make you feel a bit...

I've read this book and it's ssooooooo cool!!!!!! If you have read the book you'll know that Patrick has a younger sister. There is another book that is about her when Patrick is off at war. I think it's called "Where Have All the Flowers Gone"

This review is from: The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty : A United States Marine Corps, Khe Sanh,Vietnam ,1968 (My Name Is America) (Hardcover)
The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty is a book about a young Marine. I liked this book because it tells people about what Marines really go through, loses and gains. I think everyone should read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars For kids and baby boomers, October 13, 2004
This review is from: The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty : A United States Marine Corps, Khe Sanh,Vietnam ,1968 (My Name Is America) (Hardcover)
This was an easy, but fascinating read for me. I went to high school during the Vietnam War, yet really knew little about it beyond the casualty reports I saw on the evening news. This gave me a believable and personal glimpse of what it was like for those who served. I hope my boys will read it as well. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A reader who loves WAR books, October 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty : A United States Marine Corps, Khe Sanh,Vietnam ,1968 (My Name Is America) (Hardcover)
This book is one of the many war books that make people think "wow did that really happen?" Wheni was reading this I thought the same. This book isn't as gory as some people would think it is but its not. This book takes you into Vietnam. When reading this you will learn about the loss of friends men only new for a short while. Some men even shot themselves in the foot to got out of the hell of war. War readers you'll like this book.

I absolutly loved this book. I never read such a great book. I wasn't so happy with the few cuss words though. I think this is the best My Name is America book yet. If you like this book then you will enjoy "Where have all the Flowers Gone".

5.0 out of 5 stars A great depiction of one Marine's experiences in Vietnam, July 1, 2002
This review is from: The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty : A United States Marine Corps, Khe Sanh,Vietnam ,1968 (My Name Is America) (Hardcover)
Given a journal to write in by his father, eighteen-year-old Patrick Flaherty, who was one of the few who volunteered for Vietnam, records his experiences as his hill was under seige by the NVA( Northern Vietnamese Army)in Khe Sanh. Patrick writes of a trying time in our nation's history. He writes to his family often, knowing one day it could be his last letter. Known as "Mighty Mouse" by his fellow Marines, Patrick soon finds out that making friends isn't very easy in a war-zone, you lose them too quickly. The hot, steamy weather of Vietnam doesn't make things easier, as the hills are pounded everyday with mortars and rockets, but at least Patrick is in top physical shape being the star athlete on his football team back in Boston. When finally the Marines are rescued from their seige in Khe Sanh Patrick hopes for better times, but the horrors ahead of him are none that he could imagine. I think this was one of the best My Name Is America if not the best. This book, I felt, was a touch better than the companion diary of Patrick's sister, Molly, Where Have all the Flower's Gone, The Diary of Molly Mackenzie Flaherty. Both are quite well done though.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Contest, this is the best My Name is America/Dear America, June 14, 2002
This review is from: The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty : A United States Marine Corps, Khe Sanh,Vietnam ,1968 (My Name Is America) (Hardcover)
I adore this book with every fiber of my being. Sean Patrick Flaherty is a wonderful character. I wanted more when I read it. I wanted it to be longer. I felt like I was in the mud with him, laughing at lame jokes and mourning the loss of friends. It is very close to the author's Echo Company series (if anyone from scholastic reads this -- please reissue them!!) that was published by Scholastic in 1991 and written under the name Zack Emerson. A wonderful book that brings the horror and bonding of war to life.

My book is about the Vietnam War. He is sitting in Elephant Grass all day! They can get dehydrated or they could get trench foot. Mortars and rockets galore! I like it because I'm interested in war. He makes lots of friends during this war, but some of them he doesn't really like. His name is Patrick Seamus Flaherty, and his friend, Bebop, in the war fighting for their lives...and the United States of America.

5.0 out of 5 stars Macks Me Laugh and Cry!!, October 17, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty : A United States Marine Corps, Khe Sanh,Vietnam ,1968 (My Name Is America) (Hardcover)
Ok.... This is such a great book about Patrick or "Mighty Mouse" or "Brookland" or whatever hes called. "Mighty Mouse" Is such a good character and tells lots of detail about the hardships and fright in the Veitnam war at Khe Shnh. Some things that he says and does is vary funny that made me really laugh ot loud but also some things are sad, Like when some of his buddys get hit by a snipper and end up dying. He tells of how he loves football; and how much he misses is family and friends. Also how he wished that before he was sent to Vietman; he had told this girl that he really likes how he feels about her. Theres a lot of characters in this book but "Brookland" helps you keep them in line. I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK (but i dont think kids under the age of 10 should read this book it may be a little to violent.)
