Product Description

The hand-written account of a woman trying to survive in a world gone dead.

Journal
A horror novella by Gail Smith
(Linda Mooney w/a)

Something has happened to the world, and now the living are gradually becoming the living dead. This is the story of one young woman's struggle to live a life that has no future.

"Donna Prewalt is on the move from St. Louis back to Alabama. The journal tells the story of her life on the road as she tries to return to her family. Since the Big Bang has destroyed most human life, she is fighting to stay alive. Between the zombies and the hunters, she is constantly on the run.

Mitch is working with the hunters, trying to get rid of the zombies. He becomes responsible for helping Donna stay safe.

Since a meteor crashed to Earth, creating a world of horror for the few living people in it, Donna keeps a journal of her life as she tries to find out if her family is still alive.

This story contained such spine chilling descriptions that this reviewer’s imagination worked overtime. The author created a world of such horrific images jam packed into a wonderful story. The adventures of Donna and Mitch are realistically written so that at times it felt as if I were right there with them. While the ending was unexpected, I can say with certainty that this will not be the last book I read by Ms. Smith." - Reviewed by Coffee Time Romance

1.0 out of 5 stars well it looked good..., November 9, 2010

short and somewhat predictable. also the high number of out of place sex scenes did nothing but drag out a predictable and dying story. pun intended.

I saw this in my Kindle recommendations and decided, for the price, I would try it. I sure was glad I did. Afte downloading the sample chapter, I needed to read on immediately.

This book is the journal of a young woman named Donna. Who recounts "the event", so to speak, and her survival tactics and encounters afterwards. It's short read, but very eventful. I read this is a few hours, but don't hold that against it--it is a novella remember.

I'm a lover of all things zombie and undead, and this book didn't disappoint. I got attached to Donna in what little time I spent with her, and truly wanted her to be ok.

What happens to Donna? Does she survive? Find others? And if so, what is in store for her?

I have to say the ending was pretty unexpected, I totally thought the writers were etching out another direction of the story. So I was surprised, but not in a bad way. Great, fast read when you want a first hand account of the zombie apocolypse and the aftermath.

An afterthough--the Kindle has given me such great opportunities to discover lesser known, "indie" writers and for an amazingly low price! I will definitely be purchasing more book downloads like this.

3.0 out of 5 stars really?, February 14, 2011

So I love the genre, but really? Do yourselves a favor. Buy a kindle, and download the sample. It is the only way that you can avoid wasting your money. I took a chance and bought the full version when the sample was complete, but honestly it was more due to my apparent masochistic nature of wanting to see how bad it was going to get. The writing was actually all right, so I would possibly consider the author in the future, but the inclusion of sex in this tale was awkward at best. Definitely not a memorable read. Not necessarily the bottom of the genre barrel, but we could definitely spend our time better. However... if you are a true genre fan like myself, you really do have to read it just because of it's attempts at pushing the expectations from zombie novels. Pick it up if the price is right. Just don't expect anything amazing.
