4.0 out of 5 stars A Joyful Read
The aim of this book is to provide a method of writing with which you bring yourself to a point where you find joy in getting to know yourself. The chapters discuss the use of various techniques - lists, dialogues, letters, etc. to use in your journal writing, and includes numerous examples of each. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Title
I've been searching for a fun journal book. I didn't want a book that was too serious. I guess I was fooled by the title. If your looking for a fun loving book on journals that doesn't take itself so seriously take a look at "How to Make a Journal of Your Life" by D. Price

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical advice for inner discovery, March 25, 2001
By
This book is to be read by everybody that enjoys journalling or that might be interested in journalling. Even readers without an interest in journalling will find the practical ideas of the book of great value in creating immediate joyful experiences. The book contains such a richness of ideas that even old journalers will find it to enrich their journalling.

The practical advice in the book enables one to put everything immediately into practice and experience the results. Concepts are clearly supported by actual and well chosen examples.

The underlying theme of joy leads the reader to understand the most basic concepts of spirituality. If the reader dare to go beond reading and also act on it he/she will discover ways to listen to their own guidance and to follow their hearts.

Being a rich source for journalling creativity this is a book that the reader will keep on referencing as his/her expressions of themselves grows and develops.

By A Customer
This review is from: Journaling for Joy: The Workbook; Writing Your Way to Personal Growth and Freedom: Writing Your Way to Personal Growth and Freedom (Paperback)
The author invites you to use this workbook to take a journey into the self to the point where joy emerges. The exercises help you move through whatever it is that is causing you pain to the other side where joy resides. In you!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Journaling for Personal Growth by far, April 10, 2004

This book has been giving me the answers to my personal growth! FINALLY! Not only is this book guidance, it gives me insight and answers. Very plain and simple! Thumbs up to you Joyce. She is available on the web too. And don't be shocked if you receive a personal email from her, she talked to me, which was a strange feeling to talk to an author of a book! A woman who in my opinion is changing the world to be a better place. Put all self help books away and purchase this one! I have this one and others of this author. But only have been working with this one at this time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Journaling as Self Therapy, December 30, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Joyce Chapman writes with sincerity about her self-growth and that of others who have used the journaling techniques in this book. As other reviewers have noted, the tone is serious and straightforward, rather than the playful and breezy tone I often prefer.

I've been journaling for decades, and most of the techniques are not new to me. I see this book as an addition to my reading about journaling. The chapters are well-organized, presenting one technique per chapter with lots of anecdotes and journal excerpts. This book is a worthwhile addition to one's journaling library or reading but perhaps not a cornerstone.
