This is a book my grandson uses in his social studies class of world history. It covers ancient history of many cultures. I bought this book for home, as he was always forgetting to bring his school's book home when he needed it for homework purposes; and who wants to lug around heavy texts, especially since at least 4 classes he has, has a heavy text. He was in a previous school, with a text on the same subject that got into many more details, all of which he had no desire to get into. This book seems to "cut to the chase" more and gives the most important points, without getting carried away to the extent that the bigger picture can get lost. He is able to to do better with tests, etc., with this text. I am glad this school uses this book, versus the more involved text his last school used. Not every 6th grader wants to "major" in social studies! (my opinion of his previous school's text on the same subject) I read this book too, as I get the big picture of many different places and peoples and how and where they originated from, their religions, their discoveries and contributions to world development. Good starting point for ancient and not so ancient history. For example, I understand more about today's major religions from this useful book.

I have to use it every day in school, it is so dry you could dump the ocean on it and it would not get wet. I always fall asleep while reading it. This is a boring book in a 12 year olds veiw, I dont know about you but DONT BUY IT! IT SUCKS! Well only nerds and geeks will like it.
