More About the Author

Katherine Applegate's many books include the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter book series, the picture book The Buffalo Storm, and the award-winning novel Home of the Brave. With her husband, Michael Grant, she wrote the hugely popular series Animorphs, which has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide.

Katherine was inspired to write The One and Only Ivan after reading about the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, the Shopping Mall Gorilla. The real Ivan lived alone in a tiny cage for twenty-seven years at a shopping mall before being moved to Zoo Atlanta after a public outcry. He is now a beloved celebrity at the zoo, which houses the nation's largest collection of western lowland gorillas. Ivan is well known for his paintings, which he "signs" with a thumb-print.

Katherine lives in California with her husband and two children.

In this book, the helmacrons (previously in Animorphs #24, The Suspicion) have returned to get the morphing device and they're more desperate than ever. When Rachel morphs into an elephant, Marco- as usual - gets in the way, and ends up with a head full of helmacrons! Yup, you heard me right, the helmacrons are in his head and they are armed and dangerous! The other animorphs have no other choice than to shrink to inch high sizes, and follow the helmacrons up Marco's nose! Another entertaining Animorph book, if I may say so myself with the usual risks and humour.

The little egomaniacs are back to irritate and amuse the Animorphs. They dive into Cassie's barn in their little Barbie size space ship to take over the universe.

In the midst of trying to capture the little fiends, they dive into Marco's nose to take him hostage. So the friends have to take them on in their friend. Very unique.

I liked the unique staging of this Animorphs book. I also liked the references to other literary icons, such as Magic School Bus. Very neat.

I also think this is the first Animorphs book (not a Mega book) which uses other characters' voices in different chapters. We got a bit of Marco's viewpoint along the way. Rachel even admitted she might possibly like & miss Marco if something were to happen.

Definitely a keeper Animorph book

The helmacrons are back! These less than an inch high aliens need more power so the little ego-maniacs turn to the animorphs and demand the morphing cube! Rachel attacks them Marco gets in the way and ends up with aliens well in his nose! Now the helmacrons are using Marco as a hostage. The rest is in the book!
