Why Bother?, April 14, 2007
This review is from: Journey To The Center Of The Earth: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The only reason I bought this CD was because I spotted it for .99 cents as I was looking for a copy of the Bernard Herrmann original. I saw the TV movie in question and thought very little of it, so the soundtrack was even less on my mind.
I figured for .99, since I was buying something else at the same time, why not?
Rareley will you find a more generic, synth and orchestra score of such litte interest that even a second listening fills you with indifference.
About the only stand-out moment in the score is the faux-tribal chanting -which, while it sounds embarassingly stereotypical, at leasts livens up the otherwise drab proceedings.
This CD might be useful if you want to add background music to your home movies or a PowerPoint presentation, but it hardly merits shelf-space in anyone's permanant collection.
SEPTEMBER 2008 ADDENDUM: I see now that this title has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I can only hope that they have since repented of their sins for issuing it in the first place.
