Editorial Reviews

Review

"...In between the first and last poems is an uplifting journey of one woman's battle against the physical, emotional and psychological trauma of breast cancer....Ms. Barnhart's story is powerful and touching and sure to be an inspiration to other cancer patients....the poems and artwork will certainly inspire countless hours of reflection and the book can be re-read over and over with new insights found each time." -- OncoLink Book Review by Kenneth Blank, MD, University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, August 4, 1997 --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

Life's journey sent Margaret Barnhart on a search for identity and control. As a child, a daughter, and a sister, she explored and challenged. The years of education included advanced degrees in Elementary Education (Capital University), Guidance and Counseling (Miami University), and Art Therapy (Wright State University). The 28 years of her first marriage included mothering two sons, many household moves to accommodate her husband's job desires, full time work in various school systems, and extensive travel. The accumulation of wisdom and experience seemed to be an adequate structure for her religious beliefs and value system. However, chaos resulted when she encountered unemployment, lost self-esteem, and became depressed. Her energies were devoured by breast cancer and its treatments. At the present time, Mrs. Barnhart is a 12 year cancer survivor, remarried, retired, and recently moved to Arizona. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

1987 (age 46). I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was married, had two sons, and was an elementary school counselor. Agreeing with the recommended mastectomy I thought, "Six weeks to read all those books I have." However, two weeks later I was told that my cancer was aggressive and I should have six months of chemotherapy. My father died while on chemo for Lymphoma.

Writing "Journey Unknown, focusing on the emotional aspects of cancer, mastectomy and chemotherapy," was my outlet. When my doctor said "publish" I did it my way because I wanted control!! After distributing over 4,000 books I now have a revised version on Amazon Kindle, and WATCH FOR THE NEW AND UPDATED VERSION OF JOURNEY UNKNOWN IN PRINT!

I honestly thought by now mastectomies would have ended and there would be no use for my book. I was wrong. Since 1988 Journey Unknown has circulated around the world. My husband Charles and I now love living in Tucson AZ where blue skies abound.
