4.0 out of 5 stars SACD Release
This release shows all the promise of SACD. The sound quality does not embody the harshness of standard CD but is warmer (remember vinyl) as I remember it to be. However, there is more musical detail and definition I did not hear before in vinyl. As a result, there is more intimacy with the music. It would have deserved one more star if it was multichannel 5.1 (why not,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed review
If you like "Journey", you'll love this edition, which is a purer, better mixed "stereo" version of the album. This is not a multi-channel recording! Unfortunately, some SACD's were remixed in stereo only (2.1 basically - 2 channels and the subwoofer). So the sound is better but you need an SACD decoder to enjoy it. I personally prefer multi-channel mixes. That's why...

4.0 out of 5 stars SACD Release, January 28, 2005
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This release shows all the promise of SACD. The sound quality does not embody the harshness of standard CD but is warmer (remember vinyl) as I remember it to be. However, there is more musical detail and definition I did not hear before in vinyl. As a result, there is more intimacy with the music. It would have deserved one more star if it was multichannel 5.1 (why not, we always want more). Aside from this, it is a real pleasure to listen to this SACD release.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressive..., December 4, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
After many years, I decided to give this SACD a try. I've found better sound from "The Essential Journey" cd than from this Greatest hits SACD.

I think there's an improvement from the original cd, but it looks like they did a lazy transfer to SACD and so, unlike "The Essential", the sound is not polished.

I own many stereo SACD (Sychronicity-The Police, What's going on-Marvin Gaye, The best-Roxy Music, In search of the lost chord-Moody Blues) and I think all of them represent a justification for SACD upgrading. With "Journey Greatest hits", I frankly wasn't impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, January 24, 2008
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Journey is one of those bands that I feel you're missing out if you don't know. This is a pretty decent compilation to enjoy as a fan, but it's perfect if you're new to their music.

3.0 out of 5 stars Morons quoting morons, April 24, 2005
By
Hello Danny "Larry" (Bay Area, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm not sure that I have ever met anyone who considers Journey to be among the best bands in the history of rock and roll - or even pop music for that matter. However, considering Journey's huge and sustained fan base, I found it interesting that a moron quoting beavis and butthead would find the time to deride a band that he professes to hate. If you hate the band so much, why don't you just shut up and let the rest of us enjoy the CD.

This new SACD version reveals the texture and details that were once only available on the original vinyl lp. As stated in one of the other reviews, SACD is not only multi channel. In fact, its original design intent was to recreate the analog mastering of many older, beloved recordings, as well as remove the curtain that prevents even the most diligantly produced digital recordings from rendering all that the music has to offer.

Multi channel is spectacular when it is engineered properly - with finess and respect for the artist's intent. There are many reasons why a certain recording would or will not be remastered into a multi channel mix. All of these decisions lie with the artists, producers, and, in some cases, the original engineers of the original master recordings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crisp stereo recording, February 5, 2006
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Recorded from the original analog tapes, this version of "Greatest Hits" is far superior to the standard CD version. Audio quality is not comprimised nor compressed. Audiophiles will love this. This version has not been remixed in any way and is the original stereo recording which offers better audio quality than 5.1 surround mixing. People looking for a 5.1 surround mixing of a stereo recording are retarded and probably buy audio equipment for blue-blinky lights instead of fidelity and drive suped-up 100-lbs of torque Honda Civics with Nissan SE-R badging and false VTEC stickers over Si and S-type stickers underneath.

1.0 out of 5 stars Multi Channel- to be or not to be?, May 4, 2004
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I paid $18.97 for this title and although the music is great, I expected to hear "Super Audio." What you get is a two channel listening experience. Buy the regular CD because this one does not make the grade.

1.0 out of 5 stars SACD does not mean surround!, October 31, 2004
This review is from: Journey - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This person wrote a bad review because he said it was only in stereo. Not all SACDs are in surround, but even the stereo ones have better sound quality than a regular cd, if you have the right equipment! Or maybe the problem is you're listening to Journey!
