A CD that ventures beyond just music...,
By S.R.S. (SoCalifornia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Journey (Audio CD)
Gypsy Soul's "The Journey" is a beautiful, haunting exploration into music that goes well beyond the established boundaries of the form. From the opening strains of "Promises and Lies," a heartbreaking accusation of deceit and betrayal, and "One More Day," an uplifting philosophy of hope for our times, to "Won't Be Wronged," a defiant anthem of personal rights and "Talk to Me," a delicate exaltation of love, this CD moves effortlessly through an array of emotions and experiences. It's a rare disk that contains not only a certified winner on every cut, but the opportunity to encounter a level of artistic virtuousity seldom heard in the music industry these days. Cilette Swann's breathtaking vocals generate visions of Heaven with an amazing range. Roman Morykit's deft handling of the instruments and arrangements are showcased in the final cut, "The Journey," a lush, multi-layered instrumental. Afficianados of truly beautiful, innovative music are urged to pick up this CD, definitely a top selection for anyone's desert island disks...the five star rating is no overindulgent hyperbole: this is the real thing folks.

Enjoy the journey,

I first heard Gypsy Soul at an art fair two years ago. I have been picking up their independent CD's since then and listening to them live at every opportunity. With this album, Cilette and Roman have taken a big step in the quality and beauty of their music! I've loved Cilette's voice for some time, but on this album, she turns it up a notch in several ways. She has a relaxed feeling on "Letting You Go" that works wonderfully with the words they've written. The production quality is as clear and crisp as any album. And it highlights the delicate interweaving of Roman's guitar and Cilette's voice that is the hallmark of their collaborative spirit. Some of Gypsy Soul's songs have become words to live by for me. "Who" was the first to capture my heart two years ago. In the evening, it becomes a checklist against which to evaluate the past day. "One More Day" is a beautiful expression of how we should approach each new day and appreciate the lessons of our past. Songs like these, along with "Take Me Away", make me wish I had the guts to live life in a better way: chasing my dreams, doing things I enjoy, and loving without fear. It seems that Cilette and Roman have found that freedom and it shows in the way they've defined own style and developed their own compositions. Enjoy "The Journey."
