Venture back to the international “Jesus Movement” of the 1970’s to sample a few of the amazing events once witnessed by an entire generation of young Christians. This unique journey of faith begins to unfold as you wander across America with a band of gospel singers in antique buses. At first the turns in the road take you by surprise, but soon you begin to expect the unexpected. After all, human strategies are not necessarily part of God’s purpose. Following a series of difficult and supernatural challenges, a much greater plan begins to emerge – and an unforgettable lesson:

There is a reason to listen to the Shepherd.
There is a reason to stay close.

Journey on the Hard Side of Miracles is a unique and thought-provoking study in faith - a humbling account of following the Good Shepherd. If you have a desire to know God, you may well be deeply challenged and greatly encouraged by this true story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Book May 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As I read Journey on the Hard Side of Miracles, I saw how God works through people bold enough to inquire of God what they should do and then follow where he leads. Wonderful stories of miracles - some small, some not so small -and how they impacted the ministries God had laid on the hearts of these Jesus People. Great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Enlightening Read June 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The stories it contains are windows into a time of change and struggle. The people in stories were strong and resourceful in some of the most challenging circumstances a person can encounter. I am truly inspired by the strength of character and faith in the Lord displayed in "Journey on the Hard Side of Miracles", and would recommend this read to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars A higher purpose of miracles August 30, 2011
By Jana
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you witness or experience a miracle, you will need to discover the higher purpose it has for your life, according to Journey's author Dr. Steven Stiles. Miracles provide various kinds of assistance and intervention, but they also include lessons for effective living. In Journey Stiles illustrates lessons he learned from miracles he witnessed.

Readers are escorted back to a Berkeley classroom in the sixties, out to a hippie commune with clothing optional, and across the U.S.A. with a busload of Jesus People. The passengers encounter life-threatening dangers and life-altering adventures. The miracles they experience at first surprise them. Then they learn to expect them. Never do they take them for granted.

On one trip across the country, an unwise move brings an armed gang against this band of peaceful pilgrims. Or, wait, after reading about that incident, should we call them peaceful? Well, peaceful is not the same thing as defenseless.

Driving the bus too hard breaks the engine in a remote desert, and events that follow show the passengers things about faith that they will not soon forget.

During a trip to Idaho, the gas gauge hits empty in the middle of the night, with no hope of refueling for many miles in any direction. The bus heads up a steep mountain with nothing but air, or maybe a few fumes, in the gas tank. Wait until you see what happened then.

As others have warned, you might want to find a quiet place to settle in for a while, as you could find that you do not enjoy putting this book down before reaching the end. The author's sense of humor and insights will have you laughing, maybe crying at times, and definitely thinking. Bottom line, you will be entertained, but more important, if you ever experience or witness a miracle, you will better understand its significance for your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faith builder August 10, 2011
By welder
Format:Paperback
Mr. Stiles put together an inspiring, fast paced book that built my faith as I read about the triumphs and tragedies that occured aboard Big Bad Green. The book captures the power of the Jesus Movement of the 60's but, most importantly, it captures the incredibly rewarding and difficult journey of these young people as they engaged in street ministry. The book caused me to reexamine my views of the miraculous and how letting the Lord take the lead in your life can bring you to a deeper understanding of Him and the path/purpose He has for your life. A very worthwhile read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real ride... June 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A compelling ride along more than thousands of miles and 35 years of following a supernatural leading in a Miraculous Green Bus.

This book is an intriguing and delightful read that comes off quite differently than many other Christian books I have read. This book isn't going to offer you simplistic ideas about seeing miracles. It doesn't tell trite success stories or even suggest how to be successful. It is a true story of a bunch of average young people who, wanted to follow God, and found themselves in incredible circumstances.

Bringing memories together, the people involved in this story compiled and shared the awe of experiencing the tender presence of the Shepherd, often in truly miraculous ways.

As much as the book talks about old buses and amazing miracles, it isn't written about how cool things were back in the 60's and 70's when many of these events happened. It's a story that shows how the love and wisdom of God unfolded through people, profoundly and tangibly affecting their lives and the lives of others even to today.

I don't read a lot, but this was hard to put down. If you are even a little curious about how this whole story actually could have happened the surprise is, as the book reveals, the ministry story continues to this day.

It's a real trip riding along on the Miraculous Green Bus.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book inspired by God to inspire others back to Him March 19, 2012
By R.Ma
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
There are many books & sermons out there that will feed our desires to experience, see, or hear about miracles. But none of them can do the job as Journey on the Hard Side of Miracles. This book will not only help you understand the true meaning of miracles, but also bring you closer in faith and shift your focus back to the Shepherd. A book inspired by God to inspire others back to Him.
