Book Description

0923081062 978-0923081065 February 1, 1999
The Journey Home is an invitation to change. In her seventh book, internationally acclaimed author, teacher, and counselor Kathy Oddenino invites readers to embrace a new way of thinking about and understanding themselves.

Kathy puts the responsibility for turning the chaos of our world squarely on our shoulders. With an insight into human behavior that spans lifetimes, she gently prods readers to move out of their safety zones, to let go of the rope, to jump off the merry-go-round of habitual thought and behavior and opt for a free fall instead.

Oh, how beautiful life's journey then becomes! Untethered by a fear of the unknown, travelers are free to question and explore. They discover that the answers lie within themselves rather than "out there" in the world around them. They come to realize with unmistakable clarity that the 'unknown' they have avoided for so long is love.

Throughout her 548-page book, Kathy shares the intimate insights and experiences of her life as a nurse, teacher, counselor, and mother. Having overcome several life-threatening illnesses and having helped thousands of terminally ill patients confront their own, Kathy is convinced the rest of humanity can do the same. The price of recovery? A change in our thinking, emotions, and feelings. "Our society, as a whole, focuses upon the fear of disease which escalates the creation of disease. As individuals and as a society we have developed a disease consciousness instead of a health consciousness. We believe we are destined to be sick, not healthy .... An understanding of ourselves and the power that is contained within us must be reached before people will be wiling to change their definition of disease, its cause, and its cure."

Understanding both our visible and invisible makeup is a key to our total well-being. Kathy views the human soul, spirit, and body as an interdependent "trinity of consciousness." We are a part of the creator who has given us multiple lifetimes to reach the perfection to which we are called. "Life is designed by our sou and spirit as our moment-by-moment opportunity to expand our consciousness."

Holding ourselves accountable for our choices instead of expecting the medical community or our reilgious institutions to save us is a sign of progress. Our evolution as a spirit consciousness requirs us to re-examine the religious "beliefs" that we have long considered to be "fact." Such beliefs are often "dependent, unequal, deceitful, fearful, and they have removed our soul from an understanding of the personal responsibility for its own journey .... It is the uncommon person who has the strength and courage to be reflective beyond the ordinary and accepted beliefs and behaviors of the cultural system in which each life begins."

It has taken Kathy multiple lifetimes to reach her heightened level of awareness. She shares her knowledge in the hope that it will prompt others to seek the self-understanding needed to build a better world. There are no accidents. Nothing happens by chance. In this book, Kathy takes the mystery out of personal, climatic, political and world events by examining the dynamic interplay of physical and spiritual forces at work in our daily lives. "If our life were perfect and change was unnecessary, we would already be living in a 'heaven on earth.' No one has to be a genuis to recognize that we are living our 'hell on earth' and that we have not yet become civilized as human beings. Civilized people do not believe that men and women are unequal, and they do not judge, abuse, cheat, and kill other people.

The journey home for each of us is a journey back to our divine nature. It's the evolution of our immature soul of fear and judgement into our mature soul of love and compassion. Kathy likens the soul transformation to the endless hours Michelangelo spent creating his beloved David. "Our mature soul always sees the image of who we are in our dual male and female consciousness and it will continue guiding us through our physical experience until the perfection and beauty of our mature soul is revealed." After spending thousands of years learning the lessons of our physical world, we finally know what we don't want and we are ready to begin creating a better world, a world of independence, freedom, equality, truth, and love.

From the Back Cover

Kathy is a Metaphysical Philosopher, author, and teacher, whose teachings are an expansion of the ancient teachings of Pythagoras. Her view of the creation of humanity as an integrated soul and spirit in matter is unique in our world today. She shows us the perfection of the DNA as the fractal pattern of our living soul. Her definitions of consciousness, soul, and spirit are a revelation. This is her seventh book and it is a very important message to the masses who are seeking the knowledge to live spiritual lives.

"Philosophy is nothing but the science of living and the philosopher continually contemplats what good or evil has been done in his soul." Socrates (470-399 B.C.)

"All formal dogmatic religions are fallacious and must never be accepted by self-respecting persons as final ... To teach superstitions as truth is a most terrible thing ... Reserve your right to think, for even to think wrongly is bettr than not to think at all." Hypatia (A.D.370-415)

We have never understood that we created ourselves as a chemical consciousness with a beautiful design of energy form and physical structure that has an eternal organization and discipline as well as a consciousness of freedom of choice, intention, and will to guide us in our evolving consciousness. Despite the ignorance of our intellect and ego, our subconscious mature soul and our unconscious spirit have always maintained the equality, truth, love, and integrity of our evolving consciousness. The Journey Home, K. Oddenino

About the Author

Since 1984, Kathy Oddenino has been developing and presenting seminars designed to help people understand tho why are and where they are heading. Her message is a simple one: a happy life is a balanced life. Balance is achieved through understanding the interdependence of our body, soul, and spirit and a willingness to accept personal responsibility. Kathy's lifelong experience as counselor, friend, nurse, teacher, and mother has taught her that there are no shortcuts in life. We all have lessons to learn, try as we might to avoid them. From her home in Annapolis, Maryland, the internationally acclaimed author has written seven books designed to heighten our awareness of how fear, judgemental thinking, and an unwillingness to change breed disease and keep us from realizing the joy and love we so desire.

Kathy uses her books to reach thousands with her message, but long before the first word was ever written, she was sharing her insights one-on-one every day during her 40-year career as a nurse and patient advocate. In addition to devoting 25 years to health care administration and management at DC area institutions including Arlington and Sibley Hospitals, Kathy spent 12 yars in tuberculosis, kidney transplant, and immunology research.

Kathy's is not a search-and-destroy mentality. She believes that religion and science have performed invaluable roles in our society, and she asks only that they consider a shift in focus. In the perfect world Kathy envisions, religions will concentrate more on unconditional love than on fear, control, and punishment. The scientific community will look beyond the physical to embrace the existence of man's soul and spirit. Physical problems will be diagnosed with an understanding of the lesson the individual has planned for himself, and doctors and patients will work together in choosing a treatment that will best restore the natural rhythm of the body and mind.

Choosing life in all its fullness is Kathy's credo. No stranger to illness, she has overcome rheumatic fever, heart disease, arthritis, hepatitis, and septicemia. Although doctors warned her that childbirth would probably kill her, Kathy went on to have seven children in nine years following her marriage in 1952. After the birth of her seventh child at the age of 31, Kathy enjoyed 34 years unchallenged by any new health problems. Then in 1996, an undiagnosed case of the shingles triggered the onset of diabetes, a disease Kathy says she is still working on. "I am having to live everything that I have ever taught about chemical balance. It is fascinating."

Kathy looks back on her many brushes with death in the same philosophical way. The key to recovery, she says, lies in listening to our body and being receptive to healing messages from our soul and spirit consciousness. "Disease is an internal lesson of our soul that is designed by us to get our attention, and it wil continue to escalate until we change. I do not become the disease. I stay who I am. The disease is like a corn on your toe. You deal with it, learn from it, cope with it. Each day of my life has reinforced my understanding of the internal healing power of my mind, and in understanding my mind power over my body I also understand that every human being has the same power."

In a world which seeks external "solutions" to its problems, Kathy beckons people to know themselves. "Too often people seek an external 'fix' because it seems less painful. They don't have to look at themselves. They don't have to take responsibility for their own actions. It's easier to blame others, to wait for someone or something to set things right -- however short-lived the solution might be. Man cannot be cured by science. Healing is an internal process that begins within the mind. Our internal power cannot be replaced with medications, surgery, genetic transplants, or with new organs."

A realist as well as a visionary, Kathy admits that the changes she seeks will take time. For now, she is content to spread her message to all who will listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Learning, April 9, 2003

Peggie O. Gervase (Annapolis, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Journey Home : Our Evolving Consciousness (Paperback)
My understanding of this magnificent book has been increasing at higher levels of awareness since my first reading of it. The Journey Home, like all of Kathy Oddenino's books, is written in a cyclic manner, naturally increasing my understanding of her message each time that I read the book. That's the beauty of reading Kathy's books, because I found that I understood some things before, but now, I understand them differently and more comprehensively, with an ability to relate them to my own life.

Everything that has occurred in history was as it should be. There is no right or wrong, good or bad. We experience what we do not want in our lives so that we have a better idea of what we do want in our lives. Then we continue on, building on our positive and loving perception of what we choose to create in our life. THAT is pure artistry and creativity!

I am learning to be more creative with my life, as a result of having read this book three times. I look forward to reading it again, because I know that I will see more in the book that I understand differently than when I first read it. And it goes on and on and on.

When I first learned that there is no good or bad, right or wrong, I felt so free. It gave me the opportunity to "get off my own back" and be more compassionate with myself for a change. I used to judge myself very harshly, but after reading this book several times, I truly understand that as I change judgment to unconditional love of self, that unconditional love of self flows outwards to everyone in my life and my path as naturally as the ripples from dropping a pebble in the pond. I have no idea how far reaching the effects of my own unconditional love will flow from me, but I know that everyone I interact with will take it home to their families, friends, and fellow employees, who will, in turn take it home to their families, friends, and fellow employees, and on and on and on into infinity. So, as an individual, I AM powerful. As I use my power wisely by understanding who I am, uncovering my belief system and releasing self-defeating beliefs, and understanding the effect of my thoughts (which are fueled by my belief system) in my life, then I can create with unconditional love anything that I want in my life, and in doing so, I am thinking "outside of the box" and expanding my thinking and understanding so that my opportunities for creativity will be limitless, and I will be creating my own heaven on earth.

As more people continue to learn more about who they are, as they can through this book, we will, indeed, collectively create a heaven on earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Homecoming, August 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Journey Home : Our Evolving Consciousness (Paperback)
Reading "The Journey Home" was like a homecoming to my heart and soul. In our new age mindset I find that other authors try to explain "the soul" but there is still some link to mystery in their definitions. Kathy Oddenino explains the soul and spirit it plain common sense language and teaches the relationship we have with it in everyday living. She shares her own life experiences to create clear understanding which easily transfer to a personal relationship with the material. I found answers to questions I've had since my early childhood...Who are we? Why are we here upon earth? Who or what is God? What is our relationship to God? Why do we behave the way we do in our society? Why do we create illness? These questions and more will be answered if you read this book. I loved it and have read it three times!
