5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, Heart Touching, Inspirational!, February 23, 2002

A friend of mine gave me this book as a gift, and I'm very thankful that he did! When I first started reading it, I could hardly put it down. I found myself swept away into a new land of spiritual healing, and was always wondering what was going to happen next. I think that it's a great introduction to the concept of shaminism and shamanic healing. Entertaining for those who are already familiar with this realm, and very thought provoking for those whom the word "Shaman" is just a word in the dictionary. I still pick it up and reread it when I need a bit of inspiration.

Ms. Longworth does an excellent job in conveying the concept of Shamanic Healing/Journeying in fascinating story form. The book is thought provoking and evokes personal reflection. I would recommend this book to anyone that is in the beginning stages or in the midst of inner discovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story with a gentle intro to Shamanic healing, February 22, 2002

This review is from: Journey Into Shaman's Land (Paperback)
The story is about Diane that was critically injured in an accident and her struggle to identify what is important in her life, how powerful she is and how she can heal the wounds of the past that have clouded her vision of herself.

The story is really two stories in one, the story of Diane and the story of her husband (and other supporting people) as they deal with this crisis. They both deal with it in different ways and both learn what they need in their own ways. They grow closer in the moment when they might be forever apart.

The switching between the two stories sometimes is leaves you wanting to skip the other's story and get to the next section. But the different yet the same connected story is told of Diane and her husband's growth and insights into the "real world". This different style of writing adds to the reality of the situation and the seriousness of it also.

The teachings and information on shamanic or "other worlds" is gentle, caring and made as real as the one we are in now. Not preaching or forcing the idea but used as a supporting character on the story line. Whether you believe in power animal and the other "shamanic" aspect of this book or not, will not take away from the story of someone struggling to find themself.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good, but different story or someone seeking to learn about what is shamanism. The book may be a little too much for very young reader (that are not ready to learn about real life situation of death and dying), but I would think would be okay for teens and older.
