Lessons from real people, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Journey of Life: 100 Life Lessons from Around the World (Paperback)
Oakland journalist and author Sharon K. Sobotta has released a collection of life lessons she learned while traveling the globe as a "non-tourist." Sobotta's book, The Journey of Life, features chapters on Engaging in Life, Mobilizing, Practicing what you Preach, Overcoming Obstacles & Stereotypes, Waiting, Empathizing with the World, Reciprocating and Universal Truths to Live By. One of the best attributes of this book is that it doesn't equate celebrity with wisdom: while there are some household names in the book (director Michael Moore, for example) the book takes just as much stock in his advice as it does in this - "Appreciate differences. It makes the world more beautiful," from Apaulo Hart, a 25-year-old Oakland artist and barista. Here are four other life lessons: "Be inclusive. Strive to never make anyone feel left out," Bob Kokott, 43, massage therapist and dancer, Minneapolis, MN. "Stay connected. Never isolate or alienate yourself from the society you live in," Michael Moore. "Make friends from all corners of the world. This will make your world a more interesting place," Nami Inoue, 29, English teacher, Yamagata, Japan. "Don't let wounds from the past paralyze you in the present. Rather than being resentful about the hardships you've faced in the past, be determined to do better next time," Willy Ann Heisler, 30, Native American social worker, Ogeman, MN. The other 95 life lessons are also well worth the read.

Journey of Life: 100 Life Lessons from Around the World by Sharon Sabotta, August 3, 2010
This review is from: Journey of Life: 100 Life Lessons from Around the World (Paperback)
First of all, this book is lovely. I have it on display in my home because of how beautiful and warm the cover is.
Second of all, the 100 lessons from around the world are so inspiring and truly make you stop and think. It makes you look at the world outside of yourself and realize that you truly can make a difference in it.
I highly recommend this book to all people that need a positive force of love and awareness in their life.
Sincerely,
Emily A. Smith, PhD
