Transcends the genre-gorgeous Celtic music with clasical roots,
By
This review is from: Journey of Shadows (Audio CD)
Sharlene Wallace is one of Canada's most prolific and influential Celtic harpists who is at home on both Celtic (lever) and Classical (pedal) harps.
This, her second album is beautiful recording, and one of those rare records where technical perfection combine with warmth and feeling. A lot of "Celtic" music is simply new-age crap, or else fails too miserably by not staying true to the roots of the genre. Sharlene is an accomplished player, and has been featured on Canadian "public" radio often. I heard her live on CBC many years ago and was instantly drawn to this recording. Those who enjoy "relaxing" music that achieves technical accomplishment will cherish this (and all of Sharlene's) recording. Whether its background music for a dinner party or your listening to this late at night around the glowing embers of your fireplace, this music moves you to think, imagine and dream. This is music, that in spite of being "mellow", sneaks up on you with intensity and passion. Check out Sharlene's first album "The Rhyme & The River". You won't be disappointed. |
