2.0 out of 5 stars Okay
This may be for some however I truly recommend going straight to the source. The ACIM does not state things that are contained within this book. In other words, if you are a "Course in Miracles" student, go to that book itself. This book can mislead and some thing sound like they are straight from Kenneth Wapnicks pages when he states things that are not contained...

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
DavidPaul and Candace Doyle bring humanity an unprecedented enlightening spiritual book, with the message of "hearing God's voice" at all times. There is one quote from this book that I would like to share with you.
"Hearing God's voice is your most natural ability and it serves you unconditionally. God's voice has one purpose and that is to restore you to the truth of who you are, and it will do that in whatever ways you seek."

"The Journey That Never Was" will lift you to your Divine truth, your God essence, and the book reads with such pure unconditional love, you will be uplifted on all levels in the most positive of ways. This book is a definite MUST READ, it is a profound beacon for humanity.

For many of us, a direct communication to God through the Holy Spirit is improbable. We think too small of ourselves, we are fearful, or we are doubting but needy. This book not only convinces us that it is possible, but that this communication is inevitable.

If you are an occasional underliner of adages and pithy truths, get two pencils out because you will want to underline most of the book. It is that insightful and practical -- truly transformative.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful spiritual "how to" book, May 6, 2005
This review is from: The Journey That Never Was: A Guide to Hearing God's Voice Regardless of One's Faith, Religion, or Personal Beliefs (Paperback)
I had been praying to be able to hear the Holy Spirit clearly in me so I could be guided in my daily life. This book is the answer to that prayer. It is a simply written but profound book that is very practical. There are several exercises one can do to learn to hear His voice and they work! The Holy Spirit is not some abstract idea it turns out! He is actually there as my own personal guide. It has given my life a wonderful new dimension and peace. So what are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Journey That Never Was Is A Journey You Must Take, April 16, 2005
This review is from: The Journey That Never Was: A Guide to Hearing God's Voice Regardless of One's Faith, Religion, or Personal Beliefs (Paperback)
Most spiritual disciplines, and particularly A Course In Miracles, tell us to listen to and receive our guidance from Spirit in our daily lives. They tell us to pray and meditate to receive that guidance. However, if you are like the vast majority, you will probably admit that you have rarely, if ever, confidently heard the Voice for God giving you guidance, direction and support.

Finally there is a step-by-step guide to hearing God's Voice, regardless of one's faith, religion, or personal beliefs - The Journey That Never Was. Husband and wife team DavidPaul and Candace Doyle, who have been hearing the Voice for God in a discernible, audible and conversational way for over ten years, were guided to share, in this book, how anyone can regain this most natural ability.

Written in a very fascinating style, which chronicles DavidPaul's and Candace's stories, in serial fashion, of coming to hear the Voice, combined with questions and the answers they received from Spirit and some powerful exercises, the book is a quick and easy read. In The Journey That Never Was, which is based on ACIM, you are given ways to identify and remove the barriers that prevent you from hearing your own inner Voice, as you rapidly gain a sense of your natural ability to have a two-way conversation with God - NOW. This book is a must read.

This book is a tremendously important spiritual work! It precipatated a long sought awakening for me.
Rev. Jack Poole, Unity of Louisville

I've shared with our church congregation that this is the best book I have read on HOW to be in communication with God. I couldn't put the book down because it was easy to understand and joyful reading. I liked the clarity in the definitions/expanations of God, Holy Spirit, Jesus, God's Will and Truth.

I have been a student of A Course in Miracles for about 16 years. The Journey That Never Was lent a clarity that had been missing up to now. It is an easy read with well written directions for accessing your "connection". Everyone should have their own copy. (It should be required reading.) We all eventually have moments of desperation and aloneness when a good friend is needed who won't judge your situation. This book provides the pathway to the connection so we never have to feel alone again. This book is on my repeated reading bookshelf

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming & highly recommended, December 14, 2004

Kick-Azz-Angel "sherlizz" (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
A few months ago surfing the internet I arrived at www.holyunion.com, the site of DavidPaul and Candace Doyle.
It is a wonderful place where I felt very moved and connected to the heart. Once you get there, you will definitely return quite often.
There are many audio-messages which are answers by the Holy Spirit to visitor's questions and all of them are so TRUE.
In the meantime their book "The Journey that never was" has been published.
Here we get a picture of how Candace and DavidPaul got in touch with the Holy Spirit.
The road for each one of us to the Holy Spirit: back HOME to our innerself, our connection with God, is unique and different. Some arrive there without a hassle, others travel a bumpy road with a lot of frustration. The authors invite and guide us with this very down to earth but also heartwarming book, to get in touch with the Holy Spirit as well, by telling their story and also supplying exercises to connect.

People who are acquainted with the work of Paul Ferrini will appreciate this book tremendously.
I highly recommend this book, and as a valuable addition to the book I recommend to listen to the many audio-files on their website (see above).
My favourite files are under "Holy Spirit" and especially the audio-file: "what is the ego"!!
Don't hesitate but purchase it right away!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Journey That Never Was, December 16, 2004
Dear Candance Doyle and DavidPaul,

I just finished reading your book. My mother, Theresa, sent it to me two days ago. As I opened her carefully wrapped package, I could feel the warmth of its loving message. I so am for grateful for having received your gift. I connected with each one of your stories and the words that came from Holy Spirit were truly intended for me to hear! Each page was filled with so much wisdom and was delivered in such a gentle way that brought peace to my soul. It has inspired me to continue living my life on purpose, to be the love that I see and share it with all those I meet. Thank you for allowing spirit to flow through you and for sharing your love with the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hearing God's Voice, December 9, 2006

*****
The Journey That Never Was is a story of one couple's experience in learning to hear the voice or God, interspersed with teaching and elucidation about key concepts from "A Course in Miracles", helpful exercises, and more. Although the subtitle is "A guide to hearing God's Voice regardless of one's faith, religion, or personal beliefs", I think this book would be most useful to "A Course in Miracles" (ACIM) students. People on other spiritual paths would no doubt benefit from it, but some of the terminology might be a bit confusing. For example, in ACIM the term "Son of God" not only refers to Jesus, but to each of us as a child of God.

For ACIM students, this is a fascinating and fresh application and elucidation of many key ACIM concepts. The personal story of the authors is very helpful, too, as they are honest and transparent when discussing the ups and downs they've had in trying and eventually learning to hear God's voice.

The chapters on Prayer and Meditation, in particular, are outstanding. They discuss in depth the difference between prayer (which they define as talking to God) and meditation (which they define as listening to God). The book has a focus, too, on achieving what the authors call "Right-Mindedness" (this is also the name of their website), which they see as perceiving reality as what is really true rather than in the ways we have projected it to be true. The exercises are truly helpful in learning to discern God's voice.

One reviewer was distressed that this book contains concepts that are not found in ACIM, which is true. It is one couple's interpretation of ACIM, so it contains their own opinions, ideas, and applications. The book purports to be able to guide anyone regardless of "faith, religion, or personal beliefs". It's not intended to be first and foremost a teaching guide to ACIM, so I appreciated the "extra" information---it was sort of like discussing spiritual concepts with friends, mentors, or teachers.

So if you're looking for pure ACIM, this isn't the book for you. If you're just really wanting to hear God's voice more clearly, or have a closer relationship with Spirit and don't care that it is based on ACIM, this would be a wonderful book for you, and I think you would learn a lot. I think that this would be a book that could be appreciated by new students to ACIM or by advanced students of ACIM---both groups would get different things from it. I think that anyone else could find much to like here, too, and to learn from, if they are looking for insight into having a closer spiritual life in relationship to a Higher Power.
