Book Description

January 2003
The historical city of Malacca has become a popular day-trip or weekend destination for Malaysians and Singaporeans. Malaysia’s oldest city iis teeming with interesting architecture and terrific food. Now, a new guidebook, JOURNEY THROUGH MALACCA, will help travelers enjoy the best sights, sounds and flavours of this unique location.

Journey Through allows visitors to discover the past within Malacca’s ancient forts, temples and churches. Readers will relive the days of the Malacca Sultanate with stories of Hang Tuah and his legendary band of warriors. Evocative visuals showcase Malacca’s Asian and European Heritage and capture the city’s unique cultural blend. Maps, listings and contracts make this book a practical guide to navigating the city from hushed intimate interiors of traditional Peranakan town houses to bustling antique shops along Jonker street, from incense-filled temples to delicious traditional Hawker fare, and from shy smiles behind Kampung doors to lively Portuguese dances. Reknowned photographer H. Herbar will take you on a journey through Malacca.
