Book Description

What happens when technology fails us completely?
Journey Time explores this question by following seven people at the height of the greatest technological reversal in history.
Set just 90 years into Earth's future, the individuals in this local self-help group all want to rebuild their lives.
The struggle for each one is to find new meaning and new purpose in a world that may never move the same way again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised how much I liked it! April 23, 2014

I have to say that this novel sneaked up on me. It’s been a while since I read science fiction, although at one point I was utterly addicted to Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series, where there are fabulous creatures, otherworld beings, and the ever-present threat of the ominous Thread. So when I began reading Journey Time, I was waiting for the action. Where were the obstacles and odd creatures?

And lo and behold, as I let myself settle into this fascinating world, I soon realized that those things were there after all … in the guise of 7 human beings exploring one of the bravest new worlds ever. It is a time when the life they knew so well is brought to a screeching halt, and they now have to face living without fast-moving instantaneous travel and seeing what presents itself instead in their world-turned-on-its-head present. And, not a small thing, they also have to face dealing with each other.

This is an incredibly smart, original work that surrounds us with a vision of what might be as technology continues to make things easier and easier for us. But as a result, it also presents unforeseen challenges - and for some unleashes a deep questioning of who they truly are and what all this really means.

I admit that it took me a while to let myself go with the flow of what the author Paul Diamond was giving us, but as I moved through the pages and grew to know and embrace the characters - and delight in the author’s vision of a totally new world right here on earth - I wound up loving the book. There are also bits of humor and sly allusions to the old pre “zip travel” world, as well as a wonderfully inventive glossary, that I think readers will enjoy.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a sci-fi story that is filled with human creatures and an off the beaten path formula – while still delivering a satisfying “other world” journey that left me hoping for more.

I absolutely loved this book. I read Paul's e-book 'The Career Explorer's Journal' and must say this one is even better!

I love the character development and could feel myself relating to his inner monologues. It was a quick read and worth every cent!

I have given this book to my dad (a big critic who was also pleasantly surprised with the books way of telling so many stories) as well as many people I know thru work who find themselves struggling to find their way. I'm here about to buy a handful more so I can hand them out at another career event.
