Disappointing and deceiving really.

First of, I want to say I love these kinds of books. I love the fact that Steve Olsher goes out and creates a book like this. Everything that helps people getting to know themselves and their role in this society is great.

The first and second parts of the book were good. Part one sets the foundation and introduces the 'four stage of learning', and part 2 talks about the '7 life-altering principles'. I personally did not get much out of these because I knew and did all these exercises before (and did them again now).

But part 3 is where my quarrel with the book is. Part 3 talks about 'finding your WHAT'. According to the book: "your WHAT is your unique, innate talent. It's what comes most naturally to you and you'd happily do it without being paid a cent. Identify your WHAT and start living as your true self."

I did the whole book, I spent the effort, and ended up disappointed. I didn't find anything to 'roll with'. Sure, I have many interests in life, but I haven't found anything that I could center a business around. And even if I would choose one thing, I would go against the grain of other essential core values of mine. So I got nothing much out of the book, and put it away with the thought "oh, it'll just be me, I'm not ready yet to find my 'what'; I need to mature some more."

Why does the author assume we all have a 'what'? Why does he think we all have that 'one thing' to center our lives around. This is a big assumption to make. To me, this is just a perpetuation of the 'drill' that society installs in us. From a young age on, we're asked "what will you be when you grow up?" and "what full-time job will you choose?". Society tries to put a role on us.

Sometimes life throws a series of curve balls that knock us completely off track. Illness, Divorce, Death, Financial Collapse?? Finding our way back can be daunting, stressful and slow. Steve Osher has written a book, "Journey to You: A Step by Step Guide to becoming Who You Were Born To Be". Although perhaps written for those folks trying to find their way for the first time, it can also be an easy to read catalyst for finding yourself and the path to get you back on track once again. A great read for all souls.

Steve Olsher's book is incredibly helpful. It has given me the kick start I needed and I'm now rediesigning my whole business as a result. I learned to narrow down my true passion and purpose. Steve clearly wants to help people find their purpose. The book is a must for anyone trying to discover who they were meant to be!

Wow! This was the book I wish I'd written, but beyond what I presently can do.

And I write full-time about this!

The author doesn't just write magnificently clearly, with great examples and explanations, but also in a straight to the point manner.

However, the greatness of this book is that it carries you through the processes, in a very complete way, of creating a life that is truly congruent with who you are.

I love the way he carries one through the "stages of learning", so that you are clear that you want to get to the stage of "unconscious competence". (I've been struggling with how to get people to see the value of that, but he manages to do it in relatively few words - and very well.)

To the potential reader, I would unequivocally recommend that you buy it and thoroughly use the process. The book is well in the company of the best, from Covey's initial book to... well, I can't think of another, as this book is a real standout.

I look forward to getting to know who the author is, for he has truly become that which he is helping others strive to be....

As a radio coach, (AdventMediaServices.com) I train new radio hosts and supply them with guests for their shows, including authors like Steve Olsher. That means I preview lots of books. Rarely do I sit down with a book like Journey to You. It was amazing--Steve spoke to me through the book, and not in a spooky way! Not only has he got the soul of self-expression and fulfillment figured out, but he has legitimate mechanics for executing on what you want to do with your life! It's like having a loving but demanding coach right by your side. Best book I've read so far in 2011. Get it. Figure out your WHAT!

The most insightful aspects of Journey To You dare to ask what is it we're living for, what is it that we want in life, and what are we doing to get it. This book reaffirmed the fact that I have been on the right path. However, the book opened my eyes to a way of staying better focused on my dreams by getting out of a comfort zone and traveling into unknown territory to help my vision grow. I would recommend this book because it is coming from an honest place. Mr. Olsher seems to sincerely want to help people discover who they are and find the thing they are most passionate about, and gives them great tools to succeed.

Journey to You is for everyone. This is a "guide to your life" handbook which you can refer to for years to come. You don't have to be in the middle of a "life crisis" to enjoy the rewards of it's contents. Steve Olsher has created an organized and simple way to evaluate what's important to you. Following Steve's exercises, you will have a clear and easy to understand guide to becoming who you were born to be. The thoughtful design of the evaluation exercises can be updated in time to keep you on your journey. They will remain relevant for a life time. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Great work, Steve!
