Food for the Spirit,
By
This review is from: Journey to the Well (Hardcover)
I have been enriched by reading this book by Bishop McKenzie. It came to my attention as a recommended reading posted at my school, Trinity College of D.C. Not aware of Bishop McKenzie, I was intrigued by the summary of this book and decided to read it. What a tremendous blessing. As I read it, I realized that so many women travel often to the well in our daily lives. Just trying our best, no matter how painful, to do what we can until things get better. Like the Samarian woman at the well, we yearned for something different in our lives that would free us from many of the cultural, societal, and spiritual bonds that bind us. Dr. Mckenzie reminds us systematically through the additional Biblical references, exercises, and journal assignments that support this blessed encounter that we are waiting for our opportunity to meet Jesus at the well. Pausing to answer this blessed stranger's questions and boldly asking questions of Him healed her. Reading this book, we are also healed. I encourage women from all walks of life, age or religion to read this book. Like the Samarian woman who met Jesus at the well, you, too will find your voice. through His grace be healed to go forth and tell everyone of the man you just met who knew everything about you and loves you dearly. Peace

life changing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Journey to the Well (Hardcover)
I have read the book and was blessed to see the play. My favorite quote: 'I release my tears to make room for my tomorrow"This book is a tool that will assist in the self-reflection, self-evaluation process in order to move past every issue of rejection, doubt, fear, low self-esteem, the overworked mother, overtime spouse, and every other label that others have placed on you in which you adopted their view of who you are, but this book will not only clarify who you are but whose you are. Get the book as well as the journal and take a journey into meeting the man who can tell you all about yourself! Simply life changing.

There's more than water at the Well,

Journey to the Well takes an otherwise short scripture and explores the role of Jesus in the lives of everyday women. McKenzie delves into our lives and roles as women and shows how we can experience a closer relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her style of writing is engaging and inviting and kept me savoring with anticipation of each new chapter. A must read for all women, especially those needing affirmation of the importance of their relationship with the Most High.

This is a life-changing book. It has served as both a life guide and motivation tool. I strongly recommend this book to anyone that is searching for the true woman within or that wants to strengthen and enhance the woman they know themselves to be. This book is very practical. Mrs. McKenzie writes in a way that is very easy to follow and understand. This is an AWESOME life guide.

A Journey of Self Preservation,

I've always been receptive to new ideas, in fact I keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities to grow and in, Journey To The Well, Bishop Vashti M. McKenzie has nourished me. There are twelve lessons and at the end of each are exercises designed to enhance, enrich, and ready us.Through Bishop Vashti M. McKenzie's teachings we learn not to discount our selves, how to add value to our lives, and emerge from behind veils of anonymity. In her own words she states, "That until a healthy, loving relationship that promotes your full potential happens, resist the urge to become a perpetual lady in waiting, never living fully and never feeling complete or whole. Live your life to the fullest - now and always." Her message is, "When we live to the fullest we are innovative and not merely duplicating." Just as Jesus reached out to the masses, so is she. She speaks in terms that we all can understand and relate to. Her modern day parables are compelling and make excellent analogies.

Bishop McKenzie reveals to her audience exactly why she is the first female Bishop in the AME church, this book is dynamic! Through using relevant metaphors of everyday life Bishop McKenzie retells the Samaritain woman's encounter with Jesus at the well. The activites that are included with each chapter help promote spiritual growth and understanding. This is a journey truly worth taking!

A gift from my sister.,

This review is from: Journey to the Well (Compass) (Paperback)
This book was a christmas gift from my sister. Journey to the well helped me travel down a well worn road. You have already thought about the things that she has written about your spiritual journey, but with how much perspective. Vashti's book helped me to reflect on my image in the well. Looking at myself objectively in the well, I can change things I dont want to see.

Enlightening,

I was familiar with the story of the woman who met Jesus at the well in Samaria, but had no idea how relevant her life and transformation was to mine. Bishop McKenzie may be addressing women, but I found the well lessons pertinent to both genders. For those who seek a "authentic life" or search for a "kairos" or "teachable moment", this is the book for you. If you think you're ready to give up your "learned ignorance" or "learned helplessness", this is the book for you. Thank you Bishop McKenzie for your insightfulness.

This book was to be a bible study but it being summer & a very busy time we decided to wait. The pastor said read it anyway. I am glad I choose to do that. It has much insight for women.I really don't think it matters what age you are. It will make you view your own life differently.
