Revealing, because a reader can walk with her to discover her feelings, her need to be cherished, and her desire to continue to love after loss. Intimate, because Elaine shares her heart and soul with personal clarity.
If you have ever wondered what life might be like after losing a spouse, or if you have a friend who has, read this book. It helped me develop a deeper sense of compassion and wonder of how life goes on - yes life goes on.

To love someone unconditionally for over twenty years and then have them snatched away, this one of the most heartbreaking experiences life can impose upon any of us. "A Journey Well Taken: Life After Loss" is Elaine William's reflections of her life after dealing with the death of her husbands. She deals with widowhood at a relatively young age and dealing with it through her writing, where she has done quite a few works from fiction to non-fiction to screenplays. Deftly written with an engaging sensitivity and candor, "A Journey Well Taken" is a story that the recently widowed will take comfort in reading.

I was widowed 14 years ago and found, like Elaine, that the journey has been not only well taken, but also the most important of my life. Elaine's account of her coming to terms with her loss will be especially helpful to women who are widowed late in life and who wonder if they will ever find love again. There's no guaranteed happy ending, just the recognition that even if you spend the rest of your days alone, you can still be fulfilled by the self that you have come to know through all the long days of struggle and triumph.
