5.0 out of 5 stars Journeyman - Worth the time investment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun idea -- lackluster main actor and boring pace...
This idea isn't new. It was treated in a much more interesting way in the novel, "The Time Travelers Wife" and in countless movies. The plot is okay and the pacing is okay, but the acting...not so good. The biggest flaw is the casting of the lead character. He's one of those actors who has no personality on screen. He simply sits there. So we stopped watching. You can...

5.0 out of 5 stars Journeyman - Worth the time investment., March 5, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (DVD)
Journeyman was a well-thought out concept but unfortunately took time to build. Each week the characters grew in depth and the storyline demonstrated an unexpected, but much appreciated, complexity. The creative minds behind the show seemed to actually consider, what would happen to a person's everyday life if something trully unusual was to happen to them. It is not surprising that in the current climate and with a writer's strike, the show was not given time the find a solid, core audience. The show is most definitely worth the time investment. I found myself going from blase about watching it, to fully invested. An added plus, is that although the show does not come to a definitive conclusion, it leaves off at a point which is satisfying rather than with a frustrating cliff-hanger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Journeyman Come Back, February 18, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (DVD)
Finally! A show on commercial tv that I looked forward to watching. I planned my week around Monday night. Yes, Journeyman was on the order of Quantum Leap, probably a lot like New Amsterdam, which will start soon. But it was sci-fi at its best, and it didnt seem like sci-fi. Anyone that saw it liked it. It was plausible. It could really happen. Maybe it really is happening.

A man who went back in time with a specific job to do. A woman from the past going to the future to help with the job. There was a connection between them. Yet they weren't meant to be together as a couple. They had a job to do that would generally atone for the mistakes of fate. We were just learning about it. There was so much more I wanted to know.

And the side stories were appropriate, interesting and weren't just filler. The characters grew quickly. I liked them, ALL of them. (Well, maybe not the now-dead detective.) It was well written. The characters had depth and maybe that's why I liked them.

The show just snuck up on you and bang, you were hooked. And bang, NBC took it off the air. I heard BBC tv was going to pick up the 13 episodes. Maybe the Sci-Fi channel will resurrect it. If it does, I'll be there. When the DVD comes out, I'll be there. And as far as commercial tv? Cable. I'll be there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, one of the best scifi shows of all times., February 17, 2008
By
This review is from: Journeyman (DVD)
In September of 2007, NBC came out with a show that completely blew me away, that show was called "Journeyman." I fell in love with the storyline and the creative build up of each character that strongly presented the importance of each character in the show. In case you recall the show Quantum Leap from the early 90's, it is based along those same lines, but nowhere near as simple and hokey as Quantum Leap. Journeyman is complex & dark, it makes you think and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Journeyman has much better writing, acting and an attractive & romantic dark mystery to the overall life of the story.

Unfortunately, your average American TV viewer does not like to think and would rather see some idiot win a date with some hired "B" class actress on some stupid reality show, than watch a show that makes your brain work; so the ratings were low and NBC dropped the show after its first season.

Overall, Journeyman is one of tbe BEST scifi shows of all times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Didn't They Give This Series a Second Chance?, May 16, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (DVD)
I thought for sure when the writer's strike started to affect what was being aired that they would rerun this entire series in the hopes of capturing a new audience. I was hooked, right out of the gate, and enjoyed the entire series. I could not believe it when I heard it got canceled, although they did a good job of tying up most of the loose ends and "ending" the series. Not to say that a second season couldn't have been possible. It's a shame this series wasn't given a fighting chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful with full and great character actors, December 23, 2007

This review is from: Journeyman (Amazon Instant Video)
This show first developed the backgrounds of the characters really well and added the sci-fi elements as a spice to the series. The creaters of the show have selected "family members" of the main characters "Dan & Katie" who manage to be very similar in features to the two main characters. I think the show has done a superb job of recreating the past of San Francisco and the cultural elements of the years that the main character, Dan, travels too. The stories flow together creating a nice arc of the family interactions and current cultural dynamics mixed with good sci-fi based on quantium theory that the viewer can actually believe. There is a balance between the good that Dan does and the sinister aspect of being watched by the government in recent story lines. While each show can be a stand alone episode, I enjoy watching this show and learning more about the characters' challenges with the concepts of Sci-fi that influence the show each week. It's also nice to see a family demonstrating love and support of each other for a change.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gone Too Soon, May 20, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (Amazon Instant Video)
Journeyman was one of my favorite new shows for the 2007-2008 season. The others were Moonlight, New Amsterdam, and (new to me) Jericho, all exciting and intriguing "must see" shows that were cancelled.

The best part of Journeyman was the character development. Nobody in the show is perfect, and they and their relationships seemed very real to me. For a fantasy show, I must have that to invest myself in the story, and the writers and actors did an exceptional job.

I'd love to see Journeyman picked up by another network.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great show cut down before it's time, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (DVD)
Once again a show that I really enjoyed gets cancelled. Smartly written, great performances, this show was just getting it's groove on. NBC blew it by not giving it a chance to succeed. Maybe another network could pick it up?! I will definitley buy the complete series when it is released. Too bad it will all be on one dvd set.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Quality TV Shows Ever Produced, April 28, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (Amazon Instant Video)
Journeyman is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the BEST television shows ever produced. The concept of Journeyman is brilliant, the marketing was abysmal, the ratings were satisfactory for a freshman show, the over-all quality of Journeyman is superb. But don't think Journeyman is just a show about time travel. It's so much more. Journeyman is a show about a heroes. Dan Vasser is the hero who goes back in time to help right wrongs. Livia is his hero partner who helps him. Katie Vasser is his hero wife who, through no fault of her own, finds herself married to a time-traveling man who, coincidently is time traveling with his ex-girlfriend. This show could have taken so many low roads with this issue. But never once did it slip into the little nasty things other shows use to pull people in - illicit sex, bad language, drug addiction. Journeyman was one of the few shows in many years that showed humanity at its best. We need MORE shows like this, not less. Why NBC canceled Journeyman is a mystery to many, many fans who continue to proliferate all over the internet, months after this show was canceled. I say to NBC: remember Star Trek? Now, FOX owns the rights to this show. We can hope that Fox does a better job and has more respect for this diamond of a show that got coal treatment. For the fans of Journeyman, WE were the ones who lost. But NBC? They deserve to be in fourth place amongst the networks. They are the real losers here. Thank YOU FOX and UNBOX for offering us the sale of the thirteen episodes of this fine show. Now...as for the DVD...?

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Show on TV in years, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Journeyman (DVD)
On Monday nights at 10:00PM this past TV season a rare thing happended. A truly great TV show aired, one that had charcters you cared about and showed real development over the course of a season, one that featured great writing, and one that put it all together in one great package. I was blown away by how each show was a different story but yet the puzzle of Dan Vasser's time traveling ability was woven a little tighter and tighter and each character went through more develoment and binded them closer to us. A truly great expeience and yet NBC, who have shown considerable lack of judgement since the "Must See TV" era, canceled the show without really giving it a chance. A DVD would at least keep the existing episodes around for all to see what could have been.
