Impressive album,

I have loved everything that BR549 has done. Chuck Mead's first solo album will not disappoint the BR fans. But he takes the music to a new level with Journeyman's Wager. He stays true to traditional country while adding a solid rock edge, and he even gets a bit funky on "No Requests." I listened to the whole album three times already (I just bought it tonight) and it's a great group of songs.
If Chuck Mead and His Grassy Knoll Boys come to a town near you, go see them live. They are one of the best live shows out there too.

This is one of the best CD's that I have bought in a several months and I buy a lot of them. I like "Albuquerque" , "Up On Edge HIll", and "A Long Time Ago" the most but all are good. I really enjoy Kenny Vaughn's guitar on every album he works on but all the guys do excellent job here. I think anyone that enjoys solid country music should buy this one.

BR549 lead's first solo album,

Chuck Mead's first solo album doesn't stray far from the country, rock and blues he'd mixed and matches successfully as guitarist, vocalist and songwriter with BR549. With the band having run through a number of record labels and transitioned through key personnel changes, they now seem to be on hiatus, leaving Mead time to record and tour his first solo album. His originals sound as if they could have been worked up by BR549, though a looser rhythm section and the addition of horns adds new flavor. Ten originals and a cover of George Harrison's Beatles-era "Old Brown Shoe" should tide BR549 fans over, but may also signal the launch of a full-time solo career. Either way, Mead's roadhouse rockers, back-porch blues, and country-rock offer a fine balance of humor and sincerity as he crafts dance floor burners, thoughtful ballads, and novelty titles. CHUCK MEAD'S FIRST SOLO C.D. AND IT SOUNDS GREAT ! IT SOUNDS AS GOOD AS THE BR549 DAYS ! PURCHASE THIS ONE TODAY, AS WELL AS ALL THE BR549 C.D'S ! THEY ARE ALL GOOD HILLBILLY MUSIC ! GOOD OL COUNTRY MUSIC IS HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS ! MR.MEAD AND BR549 ARE GOOD OL COUNTRY MUSIC ! BR549'S EARLY CD'S ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND AND EXSPENSIVE BUT THEY ARE ALL GREAT AND WORTH EVERY PENNY !
*NOTE* THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THIS C.D. IS THE CARDBOARD SLIP CASE IT SHOULD BE IN A PLATIC C.D. CASE. THE MUSIC IS GREAT SO BUY A REAL CD CASE, CUT THE CARDBOARD TO FIT INSIDE, AND YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT CD TO LISTEN TO ! |
